Snow comes to L.A.
Snowflakes that is!!!
On a random ebay browse I stumbled across an open baker. Not I do not normally buy on ebay. Read that story here: treasuresmyhh
But this was in my area and the seller agreed to a local pick up.
For a cheap price I got an open baker and a divided. Now these pictures look faded but they are in almost perfect condition with only a flea bite or 2.
Snowflakes must be following me around. Because I have got all these except 1 within the past 2 weeks. Now bring on some space savers!!!
So I am bringing the much needed snow to my house. The heat here needs to go away.

Sweet Potato Pie Recipe
Here is my promised recipe for Sweet Potato Pie, Enjoy!
Sweet Potato Pie
Ingredients:
3 Large Sweet Potatoe's (Depending on the size, I used 3 large SP)
1/4 cup of milk, Sometimes more for mashing the sweet potatoe's
2-4 tbs butter
1 large bag of marshmellows
Cinnamon to taste
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Fill up large pot with water, put a little salt to make the water boil faster.
Heat the water on med-high heat on the stove until it starts to boil.
Throw in the yams in the boiling water and let it boil for about a half hour to an hour,
until soft. Poke your fork in the sweet potatoes to see if the fork goes all the way through, if so they are done and to be drained.
Carefully drain the sweet potatoes and put the sweet potatoes in a mixing bowl, preferably Pyrex!!
Let cool fully before touching the sweet potatoes otherwise you can burn yourself!
Once the sweet potatoes are cool enough to touch, peel off all the skin .
Once the sweet potatoes has no more skin on them, mash it up with the fork so that when you use your beater it can beat it easily.
I add the milk & butter and beat the sweet potato mixture until smooth and creamy, if you need to add more butter or milk do so to make it creamy but not too watery!
Add the cinnamon to taste, I just throw the cinnamon in until it taste good for me, I probably use about 2 tbs of cinnamon.
Get a large round bowl and layer the bottom of the bowl with the sweet potato mixture, then add the marshmallows to cover the sweet potato mixture, then add the sweet potato mixture, then marshmallows and so on. You want it to be in layers in the bowl, sweet potato, marshmallows, sweet potato, marshmallows etc...Cover the whole top of the sweet potato mixture with marshmallows.
Put the sweet potato pie in the oven for about 15-20 minutes until the top of the marshmallows are golden brown.
That's it! And then you can enjoy your sweet potato pie!
Enjoy, and if anyone try's this please let me know how it turns out!

My sweet potato dish served in Pyrex!
Yes, that's right, served in Pyrex.
Some of you might think I'm crazy but I loooove to use my Pyrex. I made my favorite fall dish, sweet potatoes layered in Marshmallow's!
Sooo yummy! And I served it in the Primary green mixing bowl! I always make it in that for some reason...does anyone else serve or cook with their Pyrex?

So what do you guys think of my "Haul"?
IN the Pink
What is happening with me and stumbling on all this pink Pyrex? I am not even a fan. However...this one is very cute and I may keep it. I was on my way to pick up kid 1 at school and saw the Estate Sale sign. Not much there, and then someone opened up the pantry that had been closed. I spotted Pyrex...oh, just a dead Verde bowl and some Old Orchard...then 2 Woodland bowls I picked up for $1.50 each and...this for "gulp" $1.
This makes 2 small pink fridges with lids, this mid size Pink Gooseberry, and a 442 Pink Gooseberry all this month!
Happy Thrifting...and make the Pink come your way :)

My Pyrex Update
Gosh, it's been quite a while since I've posted my finds here on the ol' Collective. Thought I'd update everybody on my collection.
I found this vintage hutch over the summer for a steal, and I knew it would be the perfect place to store my Pyrex. Of course my Pyrex collection at the time was limited to just a couple bowls! I finally pulled together enough pieces to make a real display out of it (along with my vintage teapots.)
I'm loving how it's all coming together. I'm far from capacity, but I'll probably start to be a little more selective about what I bring home. I feel like I need a few more "wow" pieces for really make it pop!
Check me out at thriftables.com to see all of my individual Pyrex scores, as well as all my other retro thrifty goodness.

Is there Pyrex Pixie Dust on Me?
This week I've found some things I've been looking for along time! I think the Pyrex Fairy has covered me in Pixie Dust!
It started on Monday at a Goodwill where my hubby found the gorgeous #043 1 1/2 Qt....no lid...wondering what this is and if it has a cool lid? Then, at a little shop downtown that is reasonably priced I found the Blue Bird Promo.
Later in the week I checked Craig's List since I've had some great luck. Well, there was some amazing goodies, and the lady was willing to go down on the price making it a great deal! When I met her at the grocery store I saw that it was the same lady I purchased from last time! She is older and very nice. She said her attic is full of stuff and she posts different things as she gets it out. She is now going to email me before posting...she called me her "Pyrex Lady". :) I love meeting great people and getting Pyrex.
Well, she had the Rooster Space Saver which I'd wanted FOREVER, and A Butterprint fridgie (I just need the little guys to complete the set) AND the minty pink fridgies. I am not much of a pink person (except for my cute #442 Gooseberry that adds a POP of pink in my laundry room), but I sell... so these little beauties are gonna pay for the other things I bought!
Then, I stopped at Goodwill, and almost jumped out of my skin when I spotted the #043 Spring Blossom. I've had the lid with the flowers for a year. It came with a clear lid, but since #043 seems to be raining on me this week, I have a use for the clear lid!

Mixing bowls, Cinderellas, Acorn divided, Forest Fancy Round Casserole set & Halloween Limited Edition
Over the last few weekends I was able to hit up a few estate sales and some Goodwills. I also traveled to the "big city" and made it to Target to get one of the Pyrex "limited edition" Halloween pieces. I live in a VERY small town and need to travel over 20 miles one way to get to a Goodwill and over 50 miles one way to get to something like a Target. Traveling that far is just part of rural life if you ever want to get anything past the local Walley World (Walmart). It really does surprise me every time I go to a local garage sale or estate sale, that I will be lucky enough to find some Pyrex!
This gal was having a local estate sale and by the time I got there, there wasn't much left but I did find a yellow 401 baby mixing bowl. Although my camera flash washed out the yellow! Also a burnt redish 401 baby mixing bowl. Not sure what set it goes to but I think it might go with the Autumn Harvest bowl set? The best piece was the 444 large green verde Cinderella mixing bowl. I think it belongs to the verde set? Again, not sure. All of these bowls plus one other non-Pyrex bowl was $5 for all of them.
Next finds were from a few different Goodwills I was able to visit. I found another Goodwill in the "big city" that I was not aware of before which was fun. I found this mint condition Golden Acorn Cinderella divided casserole for about $2. My camera flash washed it out too but it really is pretty! I really like the gold metallic leaves and acorns on it!
I also found one red primary color mixing bowl for $1.99, I think it is a 402 but the Pyrex stamp does not state the size on the bottom. Does anyone know if the original, 1940's older Pyrex bowls, if they were numbered or not? Mine just says something about a patent and of course, the word "Pyrex". I also found a yellow Cinderella 443 mixing bowl for $1.99 but again my camera flash washed it out.
I saved the best for last from my Goodwill finds! A whole set of mint condition Forest Fancy round casseroles set. All came with lids. I paid about $12 for the whole set, which seems a bit pricey to me for a thrift store find but since they all had lids and were mint condition, I figured it was a good buy. This is my first Forest Fancy find. I actually love these sizes of casseroles. My husband and I use them to store left overs in the fridge and to make dips in them and store in the fridge:)
Lastly, I saw some other Pyrex lovers post about the new limited edition Halloween pieces. I was in Target when I remembered to look through the Halloween section and low and behold, there was only one left (with the bat pattern) so I grabbed it. It was even on sale for $3.50! We are having a Halloween party this weekend, so I think I will make the dip in this bowl:)
Happy Halloween Pyrexing to you all!
