Snowflake Garland - Snow in CA!

I scored big time on craigslist. Well big time for me. As it has been dry here at out thrift stores. Unless you call $24 for 1 - 444 and $39.99 for a 441, 443 and a random fire king scores. I sure do not.

Salvation Army is on meth.

I did get this complete set of Snowflake Garland 480 series from craigslist. The lady said goodbye to them. Saying she always forgot to display them and wanted someone who would love them to have them. I was happy to come home and wash/dry them and proudly display them with my other Snowflakes. I gave them a happy home.

I got some other stuff too from her.
You can head over to Treasures My Husband Hates to check them out.

Happy Hunting!

It is not the Pyrex it is the Readers!

So yesterday I ran into Salvation Army. Someone recognized me from my blog!

You can read that story at Treasures my Husband Hates.

How cool is that! I felt a little famous.

There was only one piece of Pyrex to be had.
And sharing with you makes me even happier!

403 Snowflake garland

As a BIG thank you to all who read my blog I am doing a little giveaway.
Not the dish above but another. Check out my blog for details!

Happy Hunting!

The Dry Spell is Over!

FINALLY, after weeks and weeks of unsuccessful Pyrex hunts, I broke my dry spell and adopted some new pieces!

To say I was getting desperate would be an understatement. My weekly Goodwill trips were starting to become depressing, and I always left with my pockets heavy (fibber!), arms empty, and head hung..until yesterday.

As I was checking out, sad that I had only found books, I peered into the display case by the register....and what did I see?
Ignore that crooked 443..I fixed it :)

An entire set of Snowflake Blue (or Snowflake Garland..what do you call it?) cinderella bowls! I was so happy I barely even looked at the price, I just told the lady "aaand I'm going to need that set of Pyrex too..."
I paid $24 for the set, which is a little higher than what I normally pay, but really not a bad price. This is my first complete set of Pyrex bowls, so I was pretty overjoyed. It seems whenever I find a set, it's always missing at least 1 bowl. It makes me wonder sometimes...what happened to the missing piece? Is he all alone in the world, his nesting days gone for good? Did he plummet to his death after slipping from a buttered hand?
Le sigh. The joys of vintage.

New Beauties!

I scored two new fun pieces this week!

I had never even seen this promo before - a shiny red Celtic Floral. A splurge at $20, but look how pretty! The tiny hearts on the top - I die!

Next up, a lovely 933 Snowflake Blue! I've always wanted a lasagna pan - my momma found this one for me at a local thrift shop for $15. Love!

Hope everyone's getting great finds this week!

Seeing Snowflakes

Hi PC3, SusieQT from Practice in Time here!

I knew it would happen! As soon as I caved and bought a snowflake piece on eBay, look what I found in a thrift store:

A 1.5 qt casserole in white with turquoise snowflakes. For $5.00!

Admittedly, it was a charcoal Snowflake I bought on the 'bay, but I'm not going to complain- I love  snowflakes! And I love this size casserole- it is perfect to heat up a rotisserie chicken or side dish.

This is actually my first oval Pyrex casserole- I have a Fire King one in this shape that I use a lot and am happy to have found another.

Snow Day!

Hello, all!

It's super snowy here in the midwest, and after my morning of working from home I decided to rearrange my Pyrex display!

It totally makes my living room (yes, living room...I have no room in my tiny kitchen/dining room) more cheery!

Check out my blog for more pictures!

My Pyrex Update

Gosh, it's been quite a while since I've posted my finds here on the ol' Collective. Thought I'd update everybody on my collection.

I found this vintage hutch over the summer for a steal, and I knew it would be the perfect place to store my Pyrex. Of course my Pyrex collection at the time was limited to just a couple bowls! I finally pulled together enough pieces to make a real display out of it (along with my vintage teapots.)

I'm loving how it's all coming together. I'm far from capacity, but I'll probably start to be a little more selective about what I bring home. I feel like I need a few more "wow" pieces for really make it pop!

Check me out at thriftables.com to see all of my individual Pyrex scores, as well as all my other retro thrifty goodness.

dreams come true

well, it officially happened. my dreams have come true. i wrote about the pyrex dream i had in a post a few months ago, and today it actually came true! i hadn't been in my local thrift store for about four weeks because i had been so upset that there was never any pyrex to be had. well, that all changed today. i found the motherload of pyrex. :)

in fact, there was so much pyrex to be had it will take my three posts to document it all (my haul, what i left behind, my current collection) so i look forward to sharing it all with you!

in this post i wanted to focus on the haul! :) i am SO excited to have found so many pieces. and pieces from collections i had never had the privilege of seeing in person!

can you imagine? this beautiful blue snowflake was nestled inside of a cabinet next to the cash register. it's price tag was $12 but when was i ever going to see blue snowflake again?? so lovely!

and, pink gooseberry? for real? there were actually two of these bowls but they each cost $15 so i could only swing the cost of one of them. some other lucky pyrex collector will be very happy to find the other one. :) i'm so excited to see this pattern. i've dreamed about this one!

i love autumn harvest so i was especially happy to find this small bowl for only $4 and it is in pretty good condition. the little yellow dish is unusual. anyone know anything about it? the colour was in mint condition and just the inside of the bowl needs to be cleaned up a bit. this one was $5 and totally worth it. below these pieces is a butterfly gold dish that i didn't get a stand-alone picture of. it's in mint condition as well but was only $2!! i was so excited because i specifically collect butterfly gold.

another pattern i collect is spring blossom (aka crazy daisy). love these mugs. found them in a cart in one of the aisles for only $0.50 each. and the matching saucers were only $0.10. why can't everything be that cheap?!

and a woodland gravy boat! i have a few woodland pieces so for $2 this little guy was definitely coming home with me.

i'll write more about the pieces i left behind (there were a lot of them!) and what my collection looks like today. i can't even contain my excitement right now!

SCORE!!

I was mad. Last time I went to my GW that usually has a piece or two of Pyrex I found the motherload...A whole entire dinner set of what Pyrexlove calls "Bluegrass" mixed with some fern pattern as well. They had been wrapped together in groups of 4 saucers, 4 plates, 4 salad plates....and so on. The price on the sticker said "7.99/set"

I picked up all the pieces and triumphantly pushed my rattling cart to the counter. The lady proceeded to ring up each taped "set" at $7.99. I was like, "Uh uh, no way, this says for the set. " The manager came over, she looks at the bottom and sees that they were pyrex, and proceeds to tell me. "Oh, they're marked this way because they are Pyrex." So if you were wondering if they were catching on to all our pyrex hysteria  love of pyrex. They are.
I left them. Went back a week later and found them there still...and the price had been raised to $12.99/set...each "set."

Still haven't been back there, and it's been almost two months.

I did, however, check my craigslist just the other day for Pyrex. Nothing really exciting ever pops up when I enter that search, but this time was different. "Pyrex Refrigerator Dishes..."

I contacted the lady advertising and shortly after, she and I set up our rendezvous location. I met her this morning and I really think I scored. Not only were her pieces in beautiful condition, she was downsizing and was SO happy her pieces were going to a good home.

Wanna see what I got today???

Seven dishes, all with lids and beautiful beautiful beautiful!! These babies set me back $35/for the lot, which is a splurge for me to spend it all at one time, but I am so excited about them and how cute they will look in my fridge very soon!!

Left Behind//For Sale!

This weekend I found quite a bit of Pyrex that I didn't buy because I just didn't need it. (I know, right? Weird.) Don't worry, I still bought some things - but these are what I left behind.

Okay, I really wanted this guy. Mint Snowflake Blue with lid, but $16? I just couldn't. It sure is a beauty, though!

I carried this #444 around for awhile, but ended up putting him back. $6 isn't horrible for him, but it just didn't call to me.

What a day for yellow/golden Cinderella bowls. I left all these gals behind: Mint #442 Butterfly Gold $3 (I sincerely dislike butterfly gold, even if it's mint. I'm sorry!), #443 yellow $4 (you can't really tell, but she was covered in scratches), and a #442 yellow gooseberry $3 (already have!)

I did some more cleaning the cupboards this week and found some more Pyrex goodies I don't need. They're on eBay if anyone is interested!

Town & Country divided casserole with lid

Crazy Daisy/Spring Blossom divided casserole with lid

Butterfly Gold #473 & Early American #442

Be sure to check some goodies I did buy here!
