Fall Baking with Snowflake

Now that fall is here and winter will be around the corner, I love baking with my Snowflake pieces.  This was the piece that started it all for me!  My mom gave this to me as a Christmas present one year, when I first started college because I "loved snowflakes".  Little did she know, I would start a collecting passion.  I would scour our local Goodwill and Saint Vinnie's store, in search of more Snowflake pieces.  I was pretty good for about 10 years, only sticking to Snowflake pieces, but that has changed in the last few years--picking up other patterned pieces here and there.

Just made pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting the other night and the hubby loves them!  I love how Pyrex is so fun to display but also entirely useful!

It would be fun to know how or why the rest of you started collecting Pyrex too:)

  1. My first piece came with my hubby when we got married. We have had the large primary yellow mixing bowl for over 31 years. Then last year I decided I wanted to do a country kitchen and start collecting. My first items once I started collecting was a set of spring blossom mixing bowls. My sister got them for me last November and I've been addicted ever since.

  2. I started slowly, when my husband's grandmother gave me her 2 pyrex mixing bowls. One is Homestead pattern and one is the solid green one which I think is from the late 40's. And then my friend was collecting the Butterprint pattern and I got hooked on that one and starting collecting it also, (I still have the casserole dishes to get) and then I just looked on everyone's blogs on blogger and got hooked on collecting every Pyrex I can find!! I love it and I am really hooked!

    1. It is fun, isn't it? It can be a fairly inexpensive hobby too if you have the willpower to only purchase at garage sales and thrift stores!

    2. Yes, I am addicted! I haven't had the time this summer to go to garage sales, I did however go to flea markets. More for vintage jewelry though.
I have been going to thrift shops for the past 3 weeks now and I love it, you find awesome prices and get such a variety for Pyrex. I am actually going shopping today for Pyrex!

  3. Mine started so innocently. I saw a blue primary mixing bowl hanging out at my favorite thrift store for only $.99. Little did I know that that cheap little bowl would lead me into an obsession :-)

  4. I love pumpkin bars! I just made some the other day and they are gone already- never tried it in Pyrex, though! I got started in Pyrex collecting by buying a set of Primary Mixing bowls at a yard sale and now I'm trying to complete the refrigerator set. I also collect Butterprint, pink, and promotionals now... :)

    1. I love making bars and baked goods in my Pyrex pans--they always seem to come out baked perfectly:) I probably use for baking more than cooking (casseroles and such). I to love Promotionals!

  5. My mom gave me her Town and Country mixing bowl when I moved into my first apartment over a decade ago. I love that bowl...its so useful and durable. It's been microwaved, put in the oven, dropped, it was even once used as a projectile at my ex husband...and it still looks brand new. A year ago, on a whim I looked up the bowl to see about getting some more (I've always been a Pyrex fan) and discovered the world of vintage Pyrex. It's bordered on obsession ever sense.

  6. Let's see-over the past 10 years I have picked up pyrex at garage sales, but it hasn't been till this year that I have developed the obsession. My husband was laughing at me the other day, I was watching the old TV series Hazel-and had the video paused while I referenced my Pyrex guide book to make sure I was identifying the pattern on the screen correctly. He said "you have lost your mind over this stuff." It really does draw you in, doesn't it?

I totally agree with the baking and the pyrex, my brownies come out incredible using my flamingo pink baking dish!
