My first antique space!

Hello, all!

A new antique mall opened up nearby, so we (my mom & I) finally bit the bullet and got a space! We decided to start small for now and just stick with an open cabinet...if it does well, we'll try to move to a booth space.

The grand opening was today - I hope some of my pretties found new homes! I went back early this morning and added more to the bottom spaces, but forgot to take a picture after. Whoops.

Any tips from other, more experienced, antique-booth-ers?

xoxo,

  2. Good luck with your booth! Yours is the perfect size (at least it's the size I dream about).

I have to ask - what is rent?

    1. Ours is $40/month, + 5% sales commission. I priced a lot of others who also charged credit card fees & taxes on top of commission. This just seemed simpler! :)

    2. Oh, I wish that was available where I live! The closet place I just priced (& was telling Melissa [down below] about) wants $150 (plus 13% for taxes) for a showcase (which is the size of your bookcase & it's all locked up), $15 Advertising, $5 liability insurance, 15% commission from your sales (which includes 15% of the taxes), plus credit card fee, plus a 6 month commitment. ARE THEY MAD?

There is another antique market that I wish was was closer. Booths start at $50 with no lease. Too far to drive!

    3. Oh my gosh - that pricing is INSANE. This shop is in a little town that is known for it's antique stores. (Population 5,000 - 1 gas station, 7 antique stores/malls. People go there primarily to go antique-ing. That's why I wanted a booth in this area, they get hit up a lot!) The store next door wanted $75 for a booth and I thought that was crazy! What a bummer for you...I bet your booth would be amazing!

  3. It looks great! My advice is big easy to see, read and access tags. Customers love that and store employees will appreciate it too. Plus, less chance of your stuff getting mixed up with someone else's on sales reports. And less likely to be a victim of tag switching. Good luck, you guys are going to be awesome!

    1. Good advice! The tags I'm using now are actually super big, I was afraid they'd be too large...but once I started using them I really like the size!

  5. Keep your inventory fresh. Change things out if they aren't selling. Often, it just needs a little rearranging to attract a buyer. good luck! Don't get discouraged. Some months are good, some not so good, but even if you don't make too much, you've got a great place to store your stuff!

    1. Thanks for the advice :) I drive by it every day on my way to/from work, I plan on stopping by at least one night on my way home to freshen it up, and at go on Saturdays to add/remove items with my mom. Hopefully that keeps things fresh & inviting!
