A Pyrex Bowl Adventure AKA A Lesson In Agility

Hello everyone! Its Sam from Minne-so-tah back for another exciting thrifting adventure! So, lately, all the Pyrex goodies at the thrifts are either:

a) clear - no fun!
b) chipped/cracked/missing lids - which makes me sad :(
c) ridiculously overpriced ("You see, ah, sir, that's vintage Pyrex")
d) Icky/Dirty/Stained/Faded

You get the picture.

Anywho, imagine my excitement when I saw a big, beautiful, blue Colonial Mist Cinderella bowl being pushed out on the "new cart" at my local Salvation Army! I knew that I must have THAT BOWL, seeing my mother has the clear set and the round set but none of the Cinderalla bowls.

Well, I wasn't going to let any of the other practically minded people steal my bowl to ruin my placing it in the dishwasher, so I ran up to the cart and snatched the bowl, placing my prize in my basket.

The man pushing the cart said "Whoa boy, easy now!" but I didn't care. I have my beautiful prize.

And the cost? $2.50.

PS. Does anybody else in the Midwest notice the supply of Pyrex dwindling or getting jacked up pricewise?

  1. Hey Sam! I'm in Minnesota too. And YES, I've only been collecting for about 4 months. But in the last 2 months even, there has been a change! I've really noticed the difference at both of the Goodwills that I go to. There just isn't any! I think because there are so many new collectors (like me), it's getting harder to find! Bummer huh?
    Good Luck!

  2. It's certainly dried up in Ohio, and what I do see is overpriced, dishwasher damaged stuff. Very depressing.
