Green Green Everywhere!

Last Friday I went about my business thrifting like normal.   Must have been a day for greens.  I found many green stuff.

Square Flowers 444

Verde 402 & 403

Not Pyrex, but still green and cute

I also came across some other lovelies. You can check them out at treasuresmyhh.blogspot.com. Including some pretty vintage dresses.

Hope your weekend is a great one and stay cool!

Keen for the Green

The last post got me thinking about what green Pyrex I own... I didn't think I had anything except the green fridge dish, but then I remembered I got these little gems a few months back.

In case you've never seen an 080 in person... they are tiny, yet absolutely perfect for holding spools of thread and for baking individual 8 oz berry crumble. The fact that they come in super fun colors like lime green and flamingo pink makes them even more delightful.

I found them at the same antique store in Virginia where I scored the cereal bowls on sale. I had already buzzed through the store once, and I decided to make another pass going in the opposite direction. Lo and behold, little pinkie and the lovely lime green casseroles were staring at me. I searched all over the booth, but only found one lid to match them.

More often than not, I discover all kinds of goodies on that second round through a store. (I'm also convinced that some sellers purposely 'hide' their Pyrex because they don't actually want to part with it...!) Regardless, I'm glad I had time to walk through the store again -- otherwise someone else may have nabbed these little cuties.

How often have you found hidden Pyrex lurking in a corner? And more importantly, isn't it more thrilling when the very thing you're looking for is waiting for you to take it home to add to your collection?

May your Saint Patrick's Day bring you lots of luck searching for Pyrex!

Fridge Dish Frenzy

I have a confession. (I feel safe revealing it here...) I think I have a slight obsession with fridge dishes. I thought I'd be okay once I got the full Butterfly Gold set.

But it turns out that was just the beginning!

I found a few Butterprint fridgies soon after, plus a pink 503 (you can see those here, and here if you missed my previous posts.) Next, I saw a lovely green 503 at an antique store. I didn't want to spend the $20 on it, but after a week, decided to pay the shop a visit again (just to at least look at it again... maybe it was on sale?!)

It had been sold, sadly. This orange one though, without a lid, was up for grabs at another vendor! More than I wanted to pay... but it was definitely less than $20, so I left smiling.

And that same week at a thrift store, I found an orange 502, also without a lid.
Be still my heart.

As if that wasn't enough excitement... I also found the greens soon after.

The smaller one came with a lid. The green one didn't (lid is borrowed for the photo) but I had to laugh. This is the same one I passed up at the antique store. It must have followed me home for only $2. There are quite a few scratches on it, and the smaller one looks like it's been through the dishwasher -- the color is very dull, but for that price, who can argue?

I swore I was done. But this week, I ran into another thrift store and spied this primary yellow 503 on the shelf, with the lid for only $3.50. I saw another lady near the shelf and I thought about tackling her for the Pyrex, but luckily she was interested in something else.

Tonight, I made a South African Fridge Milk Tart. Of course the fridge dishes were perfect for the task. I posted the recipe (and more Pyrex eye-candy!) here, on Typing Sunflowers.

The little yellow hostess dish? Spied and acquired at a thrift store. I'm keeping my eye out for the remainder of the set... it must be out there somewhere.

I think it's safe to say, I have enough fridge dishes... for now.

May your fridge finds be just as fabulous!

a pyrex...ish day

I went out yard sale-ing and thrifting for Pyrex this morning. Yard sales have been a total bust for Pyrex lately, but I did manage to get my hands on 3 of the tiny 5 oz custard cups for $1 (which was great because I bought 1 the other day, so now i have a set). I also picked up a spring blossom loaf dish (in the pic below) and the big yellow primary bowl for a reasonable price at a consignment shop. Buuuuut, the find I was most excited about wasn't Pyrex, but its less loved cousin Corelle! I've been picking up the Pyrex-matching dishes as I come across them, and today I hit the jackpot! A 20 piece set of spring blossom dishes NEW IN BOX! I also somehow managed not to replicate any of the dishes I already had, except that I already had 2 saucers. Here is my whole spring blossom family:

In the box was: 4 dinner plates (biggest plates), 4 lunch plates (2nd biggest plates), 4 large bowls, 4  tea cups, and 4 saucers. Also, a lovely colorful pamphlet of Pyrex and Corelle compatibles!

Also, miniature rant here: Savers is getting ridiculous with Pyrex pricing. It was fine until recently. Yesterday I went and they wanted $9 for a scratched small autumn harvest 401 bowl! Who is pricing this stuff!? Fingers crossed for more normal Pyrex pricing!

Heinz 57...I mean 507

I found this interesting utility dish last week on Thursday at my more pricey GW. It was $3.99. I wasn't sure if it was a tiny cake pan, a refrigerator dish, or what?! But it had a minor little paint scratch and otherwise super shiny and interesting green appearance...so of course I grabbed it.

Had the numbers 507-B on the back. Checked it out over at Pyrexlove and came to find out that I had picked up a Heinz promotional piece. It almost matches my salad bowl I posted about last month in color EXACTLY.

What a fun find! Especially when I didn't realize what I had was kind of different. Any interesting finds lately?

crazy daisy or spring blossom?

hello, all! this is my first post with the pyrex collective (though i have been a follower and admirer for awhile!). i'm also quite new to pyrex collecting. i live in a small community in manitoba and we only have one thrift store at our disposal so nearly all of my pieces actually come from one central source, if you can believe that! i started collecting about one year ago and have amassed a nice little starter collection for myself. it's pretty eclectic but i just love finding new pieces each time i go to the thrift store. i look forward to sharing more pictures in future posts.

what prompted my first post today was because i picked up the piece pictured below. i have been wanting to build on this collection for awhile now and i was stoked to see this 401 piece for $3.00 (like many of you, i have seen prices begin to skyrocket on pyrex pieces!). it is in pretty good condition too! so, my question is (since i am new to all this): is this collection called "crazy daisy" or "spring blossom"? i have seen both names referring to the same pieces and now i don't know which one is the official name.

my second question to you would be, are the pieces i have pictured below also from this same collection? as best as i can tell based off of some mediocre internet research, they are, but i figured i'd ask all of you pyrex experts to help. :)

(you can find my blog here. it's not pyrex-focused, but rather focused on a 365-project i'm working on. however, i did dedicate one post to pyrex not long ago--found here).

happy pyrex hunting!

My First post here... Welcome Primary Mixing Bowls

Hello, I'm Katie.  I've been a Pyrex collector for many many years. Thanks to my mother. She gave me my first piece. I debated on what to post for my first post here at PCIII. And came to the conclusion that a simple, timeless, and classic would  be perfect. And I got them yesterday at Salvation Army.

401, 402, 403 and 404.  I don't even know if I should tell you how much they cost me.

(Shhhh......$15.20 total)

If you want to see my other finds you can read about them here.
