First Finds in 2013.

After a slow finish to 2012, it looks like things might be picking up in 2013.

The 443 Butterprint Cinderella Mixing Bowl was the first thing I've picked up at my local Savers in ages.  I've spotted a few things recently, but they've either been in horrible condition or ridiculously overpriced (for a thrift store).  This wasn't one of my cheaper finds, but I couldn't help but grab it after the lack of finds recently.

My next find was actually an antique store purchase, but I think it was worth a few extra dollars.  I found a JAJ Pyrex Red Gooseberry Cinderella Mixing bowl.  It kind of caught me off guard.  I haven't run into much JAJ stuff and a few quick internet searches on my phone at the store didn't provide me with much information.  So I headed home without it and checked into it a little more.  While Gooseberry isn't my favorite pattern, I couldn't get the bowl out of my head.  I went back to the store this weekend hoping it was still there.  Lucky for me, it was.

When I got it home, I threw one of the pink gooseberry dishes I had next to it to show the color contrast.

Like I said, Gooseberry isn't one of my favorite patterns, and I've been toying with the idea of parting with some of my collection, so we'll see if it makes the cut if I start selling off some of my pieces.  But for now it looks great on the shelf with the rest of my collection.

Finally, some Christmas Pyrex!

Hi all, SusieQT here from Practice in Time. I have been enviously admiring all the Christmas Pyrex here on the Collectives and wishing I could find some of my own. And today I did!

Since my kids are out of school, I had a full day I could devote to thrifting. I drove to a thrift I have had good luck at recently (see New Dots) and when I walked in, the shelves were nearly bare. Apparently the Christmas rush had stripped the shelves almost clean and they hadn't yet received many donations due to the holiday. I was prepared to be disappointed.

But look what I found sitting there, amongst an almost complete set of Forest Fancies (which I left there):

Yes, a 1960 Holiday Promo Casserole! Now, it is not pristine by any means. Someone really loved this bowl- it looked like there have been countless batches of mashed potatoes mixed in it, and I have never seen a casserole with so much wear to the paint around the handles. It seems like it has been used and used and used!

Which is fine with me. I love that someone really cherished this piece like I will- except that I don't think I'll be using it quite so hard!

It was also a bit more than I would like to have paid at $9.50. Considering the condition, I would have paid about half of that and felt good about it. At $9.50, well, I guess it was a splurge, but when am I likely to ever see one again? And now I have my Christmas Pyrex present!

my first set?

is it possible that i've had my very own set of primary mixing bowls for months without even realizing it? several months back, i had bought a beautiful well-cared-for red 402 mixing bowl and when i brought it home, it perfectly matched the red from the friendship bird collection so, i stacked it with those similar dishes.

but, now, after reading several recent posts about the primary mixing bowl collections, i think that this red bowl just may belong in that set. if that is the case (please do correct me if i'm mistaken), then i think i have my first set!

they are all well-loved bowls and not all in mint-condition but they do certainly make me happy! and, since they stack well and fit together so nicely i really do believe that this could be it: my first set.

what do you think? can it be so? :)

My First post here... Welcome Primary Mixing Bowls

Hello, I'm Katie.  I've been a Pyrex collector for many many years. Thanks to my mother. She gave me my first piece. I debated on what to post for my first post here at PCIII. And came to the conclusion that a simple, timeless, and classic would  be perfect. And I got them yesterday at Salvation Army.

401, 402, 403 and 404.  I don't even know if I should tell you how much they cost me.

Yummy Pyrex!

Hi fellow Pyrex fans! My name is Rachael and I am a new author to the Pyrex Collective III. My passion for Pyrex came out of the blue this past summer when I started blogging about new and vintage thrifted finds. I followed other blogs with similar interests and saw all of their cool vintage Pyrex pieces and instantly fell in love. My favorite Pyrex would be primary colored fridgies, with colorful casseroles a close second.

Here is a story about my most recent Pyrex sighting: 

A few days ago, I went to my friend Becky's house for a visit. She is getting ready to sell her house and has been cleaning, dumping, and organizing like crazy. She had mentioned to me on the phone that she found a Pyrex piece that I might enjoy seeing.

This is what I saw when I arrived:

I about fell over, look how beautiful it is! No cracks, chips, or interior utensil scrapes. 

Do you know where she found this lovely example of a Pyrex casserole? At the Goodwill for 7.99! Can you believe it. I mean, it even has the lid! How often do you come across something like this? Like, pretty much, never.

Quiz time! Does anyone know what this pattern is called?
