Pyrex Wonderland

Well I finally uploaded these pictures I took off of my cell phone. I went to a little town in CT about a month or so ago. The whole town is full of antique stores, some are too ritzy for me and others are country like antiques..there is one of my favorite stores that is funky and fun. Well I walked into this "general store" where they make food, cookies, pies etc. In this general store I almost fell over and fainted and for two reasons.

One is because they had Pyrex all over the place (and a ton of Jadite), beautifully displayed sitting on their shelves and they were for sale! Second is because when I ran over to the pieces and first looks at how great of a condition they were in then I snagged the price tag and was shocked again! $135 for Butterprint mixing bowl set of 4!!!!!!!!!!! Are they nuts? That is so over priced. They wanted $235 for the "blue mixing bowls" and the "pink mixing bowls"....how insane!
I came to terms with, they have them just for display...and not really for sale. Their prices were triple over the limit of what they really are worth. They will just sit on the shelves in their general store and collect dust and never get a home unless you want to blow $500 plus on 2 sets of mixing bowls! But I did take pictures because it was really really nice to look at and I could dream can't I?

Pyrex Haul

I am now FINALLY the proud owner of the Pyrex Prize Recipe Book. I won it on eBay! I looked and looked forever in the thrift stores and even the antique stores with no luck! I did not even spot any! not even at an outrageous price!! It is in good condition and I can't wait to use it!

Who knew you can use a bowl to make a cake?!
P.S. I just bought that bowl (below) =)

I found these "Bradford House" restaurant ware by Pyrex in a GW in northern CT.
They were $1.00 each! In great condition. At first I did not like them and thought I would sell them but after using them for dinner one night I love them!

I found this Butterfly Gold Cinderella mixing bowl at a GW. Got it for $1.95

This is my first Opal white mixing bowl! I have seen them on this blog before and really liked them!
This is the 1.5 Pt. Underneath there is no logo for Pyrex just a number.

My second Gooseberry piece! FINALLY I found a gooseberry piece in a thrift store. I have never seen them there before and I found this little beauty at Savers for $4.99

Now I have two!

I finally found this Pyrex for Hamilton Beach mixer bowl at a thrift store. I have the bigger one and needed the smaller one with spout.
This was $2.95

Just in time for Valentines day! This is the one that I have from the Pyrex Book.
I found it at an antique store this past weekend and was very confused at first because this is the 4 qt mixing bowl but is solid red. I have only seen yellow ones before.
The women at the front of the store said that this is a really rare piece and especially in this condition. It looks to be almost mint.
She said that these bowls alone go for $40-$80! They had a sale that day it was 20% off.
So I got it for $18, not bad!
Does anyone know of more info on this 4qt mixing bowl?

(above) is the stamping on the bottom of the bowl

I finally completed my set for the Butterprint round casseroles and BSS.
This is in mint condition, looks like someone took good care of it =)
I found this at an antique store, I got it for $23

I am trying to get a hold of the white Butterprint Cinderella mixing bowl set.
I found these two at an antique store. The 1.5 Pt was $9
and the 2.5 qt was $12
all I need now is the 4 qt and the 1.5qt

and even though this is not Pyrex, I still would like to share.
This is by Glasbake, starburst stars divided casserole.
I found it at an antique center, I love it!

and finally.....
I found this awesome ad on eBay. I hit the buy it now button so fast!
I have been looking all over for this one and I adore it!

Isn't it great?!

Verde With Envy!

I picked this Verde casserole set up at Salvation army for $5. They had the smallest bowl with lid marked separately but they have it to me with the other 2, at the price of the smallest (plus a discount). Thank you Salvation Army!

When I first got them they were grimy, had unidentified junk in and on them and just plain gross. Since there were 3 I did a little experiment with different cleaners.

Before inside, no clue what the sticky at some parts and dry in other parts red stuff is. There was white on the outside too. (?)

After. All clean!

They came clean after figuring out which cleaner worked the best for the stuck on grime (well best out of the 3 I chose).

If you want to see they experiment come on over to Treasures My Husband Hates.

Savers Score!

I hit it big the other day at Savers.  I turned down the bakeware aisle, and I spotted a large butterprint casserole so I picked up my pace a bit.  As I hurried toward it, I saw another casserole and then another and another and another.  Five total!

Butterprint Pyrex

I scooped them up as quickly as humanly possible.  They're all in pretty good shape and I can't wait to get them cleaned up and to start using them.  As per usual with Savers, they weren't a total steal cost wise, but they weren't too crazy either.

teela.

Never again, Sally Ann!

I have a love/hate relationship with my local Salvation Army thrift store. To me, it is like the Wal-Mart of thrift stores- huge, noisy, smelly and filled with junk no one wants. It makes even a die hard thrifter like me not want to go there- I almost always go somewhere else when I need a fix.

But lately, my two preferred thrift stores have not had much of anything vintage, much less clothing or Pyrex, the two things I buy most often. Such was the case yesterday when I made my weekly trip- I actually walked out of those stores with nothing. I can't remember the last time I did that.

So, I had some time to kill and thought I'd stop in at the Sally Ann, just for kicks. Well, darned if I didn't score.

They had tons of Pyrex! Of course, I scooped up the only Butterprint, a 402 mixing bowl- and for only $2.49! I have almost completed my set of fridgies and Cinderella bowls in this pattern, but this is my first mixing bowl. I left a lot behind for someone else- a complete set of Forest Fancies casseroles with lids, a set of Town & Country Cinderella bowls, and a few others- I think maybe a Colonial Mist mixing bowl- as they are not patterns I particularly care for.

This is the same store where I found my turquoise 503 fridgie and my jadeite mixing bowl- why did I ever doubt it?

Head on over to my blog and read about the rest of the goodies!

Golden Tulip!

Hey all!

I found this beauty for $3 today! I hadn't ever seen the Golden Tulip in the wild before.

I flipped it over to discover it's previous owner had written on it...in sharpie. SAY WHAAAT. Unacceptable! Don't worry - Barkeeper's Friend took care of that craziness.

I also grabbed this little Autumn Harvest guy for $2. I love Autumn Harvest!

Feel free to check out my blog here!

xoxo,

Saved by the Pyrex!

It has been so long since I posted here at the Pyrex collective because I just haven't found any until last week. I was out of town and decided to look up local thrifts in my area. I was shocked at the results! A Savers! I couldn't believe it. I always read about all the lucky finds that other bloggers have found at this place.

When I went in I was overwhelmed, it was huge and so clean.
I left with a cart full of stuff. People were laughing at me, but I didn't care. One man jokingly suggested I get another cart. I found tons of Pyrex, a vintage globe, a giant ball mason jar for serving lemonade out of and a Kitchen Aid stand mixer in great shape.

Here is some of my finds that are already finding a spot at my booth! I also found some vintage luggage and am starting to transform them into repurposed dog beds.
