Tableware Thrifts

The other week, on my way home from the cereal bowl score, I stopped at another thrift store and found two sets of these cups and saucers for only 25 cents each (I got the larger plate earlier at another store).

I had passed these up at the antique store since I didn't want to pay that much for them. Even at the cheap thrift price, I still left six more on the shelf for another Pyrex collector -- I simply don't have room for an entire set!

I'm not a huge fan of the Corelle plates (I don't really like weight or the feel of them), and I would have left these behind if they came with the Corelle cups, rather than the Pyrex ones.

It's funny to me that they didn't manufacture separate Pyrex saucers to go with the Pyrex cups -- or did they, and I missed the memo?

But now that I've been using them, the saucers are definitely growing on me.

That little yellow dish in the back deserves its own post!

And, just when I thought I had enough plates, I saw three of these bread/salad plates sitting on a thrift store shelf, for only 40 cents each. Who can pass up fun Pyrex Tableware, especially at that price?

Finally, for those of you curious about the status of the Starburst Promotional Piece I spotted recently, it is still there on the shelf at the antique store. So far no takers for that price!

Happy Hunting!

    1. I'm definitely intrigued by the different patterns that seem to pop up around the world! I actually lived in England (ages ago...) and used to LOVE thrifting there. I wasn't even into Pyrex back then!

  2. I love those tea cups. They've become my absolute favorite to have my tea in.

I kind of like that they come with corelle saucers. They'd be pretty heavy together if it didn't.

    1. True! I never thought of combo of the weight before, but you're absolutely right. I'd probably drop my tea if it was a Pyrex saucer.

  3. Butterfly Gold was produced for quite a while and there are various renditions of it (between Pyrex/Corelle/Corning). Around here, I'd say it's the pattern I see most often.
Thanks for keeping us up to date about that Starburst - I'm curious to see how long it will stay!

  4. I'm so jealous of my sister. Forever ago, when she went away to her own apartment, my mom had found the starburst pyrex and gave it to her without knowing what it was. Now that her and I collect pyrex she won't even think about giving it to me. I think my mom got it a thrift store for just a few bucks. It even had the lid. That was waaaaay before Pyrex became so collectible and popular. I truly cannot believe that people pay more than $100 for it, though. I don't think I would ever need it that badly. :)
