I must really be into this Pyrex thing, because I just did something I swore I would never do: buy Pyrex on eBay! I even said it in this very space- "I prefer the thrill of the hunt, and I would never buy Pyrex online!"
Ouch. It hurts when words come back to bite you.
But in my defense, it was pink, and it was a good deal. Did I mention it was pink?
$9.99 plus shipping.
And I have to say that the seller did a phenomenal job with the packing. I was really worried, seeing some of the eBay horror stories, about the condition it might arrive in. But I think I got my money's worth in bubble wrap alone (I will be re-using it; that stuff is expensive!), not to mention a beautiful pink 503.
So what brought about the change of heart?
Well, seeing some of the alternative sets some of you guys have put together inspired me. I had this idea to make an alternative set of 503s, and just needed the pink one to finish it:
I do love these colors together.
And it proves that Primary (the yellow 503) can coexist with my pink, turquoise and black.
See, it's all about rationalization!
Wow, love them! I'm also into 503s lately (stay tuned... pics to come!) Your pink is definitely more vibrant than the one I found. Do you know if they made different shades of pink for that dish?
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the fridgies, but Pyrex made a darker shade of pink (aka "Flamingo") which was used on some of the bakers and casseroles. I have both and this is definitely the lighter shade. I don't know of any shades lighter than these- maybe it's just how the colors look on the computer.
DeleteMaybe it's just my screen then! My fridgie is definitely not flamingo (I have a few other flamingo pieces...) I just wanted to be sure my fridgie hadn't faded ;)
DeleteVery nice combo...you can never go wrong with fridgies!
ReplyDeletePink, shiny and with an older lid - no wonder you couldn't resist! You really found a nice one there. Love your stack - very colourful!
ReplyDeleteWow! Gorgeous! I had noooooo idea that the 503 came in black... Did the 501 and 502 also come in black or a variation pattern (like black / white gooseberry, etc)?
ReplyDeleteI am so excited! Lol.. :)
It's not an "official" 503, in that it did not ever come with a set of 501s and 502. I don't think the black one even had a glass lid. It was originally part of a very rare Rodney Kent Starline hostess set- which I don't have- like an insert. But it is identical to all the other 503s in every aspect, so I use it like that.
DeleteOmg, well I'm still so super excited about it! Lol. I am now on the hunt officially. That color combo is amazing. Congrats on your good fortune. :)
DeleteI see! It's from this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/101516523/pyrex-rodney-kent-starline
DeleteLooks so pretty! Love the stack!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worth an ebay experience to snatch it up at that price! Love the color combo with the stack!
ReplyDeleteI have all of the colors in your pic and now I am inspired to stack mine that way! They look great together! I actually wish there were more pieces in black.
ReplyDeleteI've bought several pieces of pyrex off ebay, and they have always come very well packed and in great shape. Knock wood! Love these colors together, so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThose colors look fantastic together! Great buy!
