Sunny 2013

Oddly enough, on the first day of 2013 in Seattle I woke up to the sun shining through my bedroom window. So far, we have had five sunny days in a row. My sunniest day though was on Thursday when my twin sister and I went to Value Village. Also odd was that I didn't go there with the intention of hunting for Pyrex. I am quite content with my collection and feeling a lot less urgent about acquiring pieces that I don't have yet. I have finally learned that, with patience, I will get all of the pieces that I need. Okay, the term 'need' is relative and I don't honestly believe that about Lucky in Love but, everything else, seems to find it's way to me.
Daisy 471, 472 and 473
So, my sister and I were killing time before her son was done at preschool and she needed to drop some items off at Value Village. When we went to drop off her bags the attendant came out and just handed each of us $3 donation coupons even though I didn't donate anything. When we went in I told her that I, out of habit, had to cruise down the Housewares aisle even though it had been forever since I had found any Pyrex there. I was not disappointed. The shelves were pathetically barren. We took our time around the rest of the store and I found a Roald Dahl book that my son hadn't read and she found a North Face coat she liked until she saw that it was marked at $59.99! Nuts! Before we left though, I had to do a double check in case anything else had been put out while we were in other parts of the store. I can't be the only one who keeps one ear cocked for the sound of rolling wheels, right? Sitting all by itself beside the Long Sleeve Knits rack was a cart filled with bins of Housewares. After sifting through a couple I saw a glimmer of a yellow and orange lid that looked familiar. A Daisy lid! And two other Daisy lids along with three matching dishes! Two things were left to check - the prices and the integrity. Each dish was $2.99. Check. Each was also shiny and scratch free. Check. Another plus was that I needed the 472 and 473 since I had the 471 and 475 at home. I scooped them up and headed to the register and that was my sunniest day of the year, so far!
What finds has everyone else had so far this year? Is this usually a dry time? My good finds will hold me for awhile if pieces are far and few between. I hope people all over will donate their perfect dishes and that all of us collectors will happen upon them soon as I did these three!

  1. I am totally a double checker too! I love hearing those rolling wheels and digging through the bins. And I am a firm believer in thrifting patience--I've had more than a few pieces I've considered buying in antique stores or eBay, only to find them for much better prices in the wild!

Lucky you with these Daisy cuties! I love them!

  2. What a great buy! I am too a double checker. I always re-check the aisles. Love the Daisy's. Yesterday I found 2 terra little bowls. I know that the terra pattern is rare to come by and found them at savers for $1.99 each!

    1. What a great find! It seems like when I find the terra bowls they are always faded or very scratched. They're so cute!

  3. Daisy is such a cheery pattern, and you got them for a good price. I have a set of 473, 474 and 475. I also listen for the rolling wheels and re-check the shelves before I leave and usually see something that I hadn't noticed before.

    1. Sometimes I even have trouble leaving because I think, hmm, I should stick around until they bring more out.

  6. That is such a great find! The people in my favorite thrift shop get all weird if you get into their carts. I don't get that... I'm making it so you have less to put away! I'm helping!

    1. This was in the Burien VV. They'd been really empty the last few months (at least when I went) so this was an especially nice surprise. We have a GW also that is hit and miss and a new Antique store is opening soon which will be our second. The Tukwila VV can be okay sometimes too. Which stores do you shop at the most?
