Mail Time

Happy Monday PC3 friends!  I'm keeping this short and sweet but I was too excited not share.  I got some mail today!  I won an auction on E-bay last week and it arrived.  I already had a 501 and 503 but I walked away with this set for $28 shipped! I convinced my husband I can make at least half of that back with the duplicates I will trade or sell. I have wanted that butter dish for at least a year.  I have two others and I'm perfectly happy selling those and just keeping this one!  Not too bad for E-bay :)

Christmas Pyrex & Winter Blues

I was playing with my Pyrex at Christmas and came up with a little shelf I was happy with.  I just put together some reds, greens, blues and snowflakes and was happy enough with it :) Sorry about the picture quality, I was trying to use the panoramic feature on my phone!

A few of my favorite pieces were on this shelf.  I love my green dots bowl.  I won that off of a poorly labeled E-bay auction. I think its title was "pyrex bowl". I also adore my 024 bowls.  I want every color they made, lol.  They are so practical and pretty, especially when stacked with other bright colors!

Christmas came and left and I knew I wanted something else before going back to mismatched pieces everywhere.  I decided to go with a blue winter theme! Several of my favorite pieces were included in this and one of my most favorites was in the fridge when I took the picture!  I adore my Saxony piece with all my heart.  It was an Etsy buy but with shipping it cost me less than $20.  I would pay more for that in a store so I was thrilled to find one randomly like that.  I also love the Bluebird piece.  That was a birthday gift from a friend who collects Pyrex.  She even gave me her extra lid so as to not gift it without one...that's true friendship right there ;)  The tulip piece is another winner for me! A sweet woman in our church saw it while shopping in Branson with her friends.  She text me and showed the me the picture and said it was $15 and asked if I wanted it.  Um, YESSSSSS!  I am so grateful I have friends looking out for me and my Pyrex :)  I have the Butterprint bowl set that is near and dear to me because my husband bought it for me for Christmas a few Christmases ago.  He was so proud of his find!  I also love my little turquoise 024! I found that while wasting time in my hometown when we went to visit for Christmas. It was $8 and in lovely condition. Last but not least is my sweet little balloon bowl.  It's got quite a bit of irreversible wear and tear on it but a friend found it and sent it to me for my birthday.  I had no idea she even knew it was my birthday so to send a gift so precious was well appreciated!

The piece I mentioned that was in the fridge is this one:

The blue barcode.  Be still my beating heart.  All in that picture were found while on vacation in Seattle.  The two 024s were actually a Craigslist find while we were there. We drove to meet the sweet lady at her apartment.  The prices were right and as I said, I love that style.  I had hoped to find more in thrift stores but everything I did see was something I either had or didn't care for.  We hit up a flea market that had a beautiful small display of Pyrex.  Prices were a big higher then I would ever pay at home but I was upset I would be flying home without anything so I bit the bullet and paid for the barcode dish. It was "only" $35 but to see it in the wild and in such great shape (and not to mention we saved a lot of money for this trip and didn't seem to spend much of it) I couldn't leave it behind.  The carafe was from another seller in the same little store and was marked a measly $5.  

So there you have a bit of my holiday Pyrex and a glimpse into my collection.

Motivated to Shop

Hey everyone! It's Meg (the new girl!)  Joining this site motivated me to get out there and really not drive by Goodwill or Savers without going in.  Usually I have my kids with me (two boys, ages 4 and 3 next week) and it's just not worth getting them out for a maybe.  Well, I had the chance to run by Savers since my last post and although it's not Pyrex I found a few good things.  We are switching to nicer cookware but I'm not overly interested in paying the prices for new Le Creuset.  Well, I saw this little saucepan and could tell it was cast iron.  It was in great shape. I flipped it over and it was a vintage Le Creuset piece and it was marked $3.99. Yes please!

I also saw this sweet little strawberry milk glass dish.  For $0.99 it was hard to pass up.  It might be Hazel Atlas but I'm not 100%.  Cute regardless and worth the small price tag.

But you're here for Pyrex, right? ;)

I hit up the two main antique stores today.  They are antique/vintage/a small amount of flea market.  This yellow bowl below is something of the norm for this area.  A yellow primary bowl for $45.  Yes. For the one bowl.  It's been in that booth for 2 years at least. They REALLY love their yellow bowl!

For the first time EVER I saw some salt and pepper shakers.  The price was right too! $7 for the set.  I text a few friends to see if they wanted them but they both said no. I left them behind because I have this set, and the butterfly gold set, and the white correlle snowflake set, and a cute mushroom set that match my canisters.  I don't even collect shakers :)  

But on to what I did buy ;)

I had pretty much decided that I was done looking for and buying mixing bowl sets. I have the sets I love and really, who needs 6 sets of bowls (aside from us Pyrex crazies collectors).  I found this bowl sitting by itself though and it was just so bright and cheery.  And although I never had a desire for the daisy line, it couldn't be left alone on the shelf.  And for $10, why not?!

I also walked out with a small butterprint refrigerator dish and lid.  Recently I was visiting my family in Oklahoma and I went in to a bakery that also happened to have antiques.  I lived there for 18 years and never knew it existed.  I made a quick walkthrough and then I saw a stack of Pyrex.  They had some really nice pieces and I found the large butterprint fridge dish for $10. I was also done with fridge sets but it was butterprint. And in great shape. And I was in the mood to spend money....so I decided to buy it but I wouldn't seek out the other pieces. I would just buy them if they fell into my lap.  And today one did. It was $5 and it was kind of fun to have found a little addition to the bigger piece!

All in all, I'd say I had some good luck for decent prices at the antique stores. I hope everyone else had a great Saturday.

Hey guys! New girl on the block here :)

Hey everyone! 

 I'm Meg and new to PCIII.  I am super excited to be here :)  I am a twenty something year old stay at home mom to two little boys.  I live in the South but feel misplaced.  I am a cold weather loving, bacon eating, quirky lady who loves all things vintage.  Well, most things vintage at least! That brings me to Pyrex.  I don't really remember when I came to love Pyrex but it started with a little bright yellow, 1 pint dish that I picked up at the Goodwill for around $3.  I didn't know much about Pyrex but I knew I loved pretty things and it was pretty. It was a daisy dish without a lid. 

I started out by buying everything I saw.  I found some decent deals on pieces but little did I know the monster I was creating ;) We had no space in our cabinets for more dishes (I also loved Fiestaware and basically any cool kitchen-y thing so even though we have cabinet space, my cabinets were out of space!).  It started to pile up on the counter top and while I loved it, I knew I needed a better solution.  A friend's husband is super handy and built us some shelves and that is where my Pyrex lives today!

Unfortunately, I don't have much luck thrifting in my area. I have this theory about how the South has generally been poorer and people didn't always have the money for an abundance of this beautiful cookware. When you do find it in a thrift store it is often (not always) overpriced.  Most of my pieces come from traveling, the internet and gifts from amazing friends!  

I hope you don't mind me sharing my collection :) I love knowing there are other people out there who cherish this treasure as much as I do.  For now, I'll just leave you with one tiny picture of a piece of my Pyrex in use!
