I Love Turquoise!

Hi PC3, SusieQT here from Practice in Time!

Last time I posted I mentioned how it seemed like my dry spell had been broken. Boy has it ever! And I am sooo glad; I was starting to get a little desperate!

I had some great luck with turquoise this week. First I found the Butterprint 401 which I posted last time. All I needed to complete my Butterprint mixing bowl set was the ever-elusive 404. I have been watching a couple online for a while and I just couldn't bring myself to pay the $50 or so it would have cost for one. I am glad I didn't pull the trigger because I found one in the wild!

I was meeting my mom for lunch and was a bit early so I got in a little thrifting on the way. I couldn't believe my eyes- there it was, just sitting there waiting for me on the shelf. Believe me, I just about had a death grip on that sucker all the way to the register.

I <3 Butterprint!
I am so excited I finally completed this set, and it was all thrifted.

And to complete my Turquoise Trifecta, yesterday I thrifted a Needlepoint 443! I just stopped into my local Sally Ann on a whim and there she was. I still can't believe I found one- never in a million years would I expect to find a piece like this at my Salvation Army, but it goes to show that every once in a while, a gem turns up.

I think I am in LOVE!

Time for a family photo!

Hi PC3 SusieQT here from Practice in Time! Summer is half over, can you believe it? I have been busy on facebook lately, trading and talking about Pyrex.

I have been culling my collection a bit, and trading away those pieces that don't fit in my scope. I have traded some good pieces for other good pieces- if both parties are happy, that is a good thing. I finally got my Butterprint 443 to complete the Cinderella set. I also got the last 501 fridgie (with lid!) to complete the refrigerator dish set. All the rest of those pieces were thrifted and I have been working on completing them for almost 2 years. Finally finishing them is a good feeling, and so it was time for a family photo!

I still need 2 more regular mixing bowls to complete the set on the right, as well as all the lidded casseroles in the Butterprint pattern and I will have them all. So far the only ebay purchase was the butter dish, but I'm glad I bought that. Of course, the tea towel is from Fresh Pastry Stand on Etsy!

I also bought these Delphite items recently. I can't get enough of the blue milk glass and have never seen it in the wild, so they were ebay purchases. But I think I got a good deal on them, so I'm happy. The casserole didn't come with the lid or cradle, but I think I can find those easily enough. I love the look of these, especially with my most recent thrifted vintage tablecloth ($5 at SA!)

Stay tuned, I have more Pyrex on the way!

Mother's Day Pyrex Brunch

I'm anti-take-your-mom-out-for-mother's-day. (You can read why here.) So this year, I made my Mama brunch -- using Pyrex, of course.

And speaking of holidays... I just nabbed this lovely Golden Pine spacesaver promo (without the lid) for only $1!

I went on eBay right afterwards to see if I could find a lid for it. I just searched for plain lids when the matching one came up. I'm so glad I saw it -- I didn't even know this one had a special lid! I paid a little more than I wanted to for the lid, mainly due to shipping costs, but I justified it because the space saver was only $1.

AND, I saw this listing and knew my lid was a total bargain in comparison. Seriously?! $32.99 for the LID?

I love Spring, Summer and Fall, but I'm definitely looking forward to using these space savers throughout the winter holidays. (See more of this Green Wheat Space Saver here.)

Whether you are a mom or not, I hope you've enjoyed the weekend!

Help ID this 043!

Hi PC3, SusieQT here from Practice in Time, and I need your help!

I picked up this gorgeous yellow 043 casserole yesterday. I initially thought it was a Daisy with the wrong lid:

But after I got home, and did some research, it turns out that the Daisy casserole in this size (1.5 qt) would have been orange. I also thought it might be the Seville promo, but that appears to have only come in the 045 size. This is definitely a beautiful, buttery yellow. Darker than the primary yellow, very similar to the New Dots yellow.

So I am stumped! Anyone know the name of this pattern, and did it have a different lid?

Holiday Happiness Year-Round

I needed to get out of the house today and what better way to rid myself of cabin fever than to go antique shopping?

I was kicking myself a little for not nabbing this piece for the holidays at the local thrift store earlier this week:

But then I justified it because I literally have no space for the rack. I would probably have to store the rack AND the bowl under my kitchen table. Plus the lid was chipped. I also didn't want to spend $15 on something that I would end up only using over the holidays.

Nevertheless, I still wanted to hunt for holiday-type Pyrex, so I went antique shopping.

There were small casseroles:

There were snowflake patterns and refrigerator dishes:

And after I'd been through the entire store forwards and backwards (seriously, it is amazing what I discover when I retrace my steps going the opposite direction), I stumbled up this little beauty quietly perched on a lower shelf:

The photo is awful. I think I was actually shaking when I saw the dish and probably couldn't focus right. I'd never come across this pattern before.

I resisted the urge to sweep up every last (overpriced) piece of Pyrex in the shop and instead grabbed this holy grail casserole dish with the lid for $12. From what I've gathered, this 'Golden Bouquet' was a promotional piece from 1965 -- does that seem right?

Isn't she beautiful? I can't stop smiling. I know I will use this year-round, AND it definitely seems to give an extra sparkle for the holidays.

Holiday happiness, year-round.

New Kitchen Cabinet Display

One of the things I love best about collecting kitchen items is displaying them in my glass-fronted cabinets. When we bought this house, having cabinets like these was on my wish list. (It definitely wouldn't have been a deal-breaker for sure, but it helped when we looked at this house!)

So it was a perfect place to display some of my collections. For a while I collected printed glassware (another post on that coming soon), and I inherited some really neat red and yellow pottery, which went with my kitchen's yellow, green and red color scheme. Those made a nice display for a while. But lately I've been collecting Pyrex, FireKing and jadeite, and decided to re-organize my displays to better reflect that.

That meant moving things around and re-thinking what I reallly wanted to look at for a while. It took me the better part of a rainy afternoon last week to finally settle on a layout, so to document that, I thought I'd show you all.

Here's the before:

Not too bad, really, but not as organized as I would like. Some of these things have been in the same spot for ten years! Also the clear glassware at the top right kind of disappears. (It's really neat close-up, with etched stars, but would be better put away somewhere else.) You can see the printed glassware all jumbled in the lower right. I figured, since you can't really make it all out, maybe it's best if I put most of it away and only get out only one set at a time.

Here's the finished display, and close ups to follow:

I tried to organize it by color a little bit, with the red and yellow pottery near the yellow and green Fiesta. Then the jadeite and Peach Blossom FireKing (which is a match made in heaven, I think), then the Pyrex on the right.

The Fiestaware is not old (mostly), and our regular everyday dishes, so they have to be easily accessible.

This is probably my favorite one, with the FireKing and jadeite. The printed glasses in the carrier are the only ones to make the cut right now. You can see some of the Pyrex holiday mugs sneaking into the picture there- guess they wanted a bit of face time in the FireKing cabinet, LOL!

The Pyrex cabinet. I am trying really hard to limit myself to just the primary colors set  (I'm using the yellow 404 at the moment, so it's not pictured) and turquoise Butterprint, plus pink and promotional designs. The lone FireKing wheat casserole in the lower right belonged to my dad, so it still gets a place of honor.

Right now, I'm pretty happy with it and it is a nice change of scenery!

My September Finds

Here's some of the pieces I found this past month...

We usually go to the thrift and antique shops a few times a week, but life has just been super hectic lately and we're down to about once every other week!
I feel like I'm probably missing out on a bunch of awesome pieces!!!!

Hello!

Hello All!

My name is Jessee. I am new here and pretty new to collecting Pyrex! I actually wrote an entire post about that on my own blog.

Today I figured as my first post, I'll just post a photo of my favorite pieces...

I really seem to love anything black, white, gray and "gold". My grandmother had a bunch of pieces from the Butterfly Gold series when I was younger, so I'm always drawn to those first. It's also the easiest series to find in my area (central Maryland).

I'm so drawn to that pattern, that I'm starting to get a lot of duplicate pieces. Plus I am now prepared to entertain 20 family members with a complete, matching, set of dishes and mugs to go with all the casseroless and bowls... I'm starting to run out of room!!

Finally! A find!

I've been having a bit of a Pyrex dry spell lately and I only have 2 more weeks to Pyrex hunt before I pack up all of my Pyrex and put it in storage for 2 years and 3 months! Any packing tips would be much appreciated. I begin my Peace Corps service in Senegal on the 25th, so it all has to go into hibernation.

Luckily, today I had an awesome Pyrex find!

Thanks to pyrexlove I recognized (and grabbed) the black tulip decorator casserole right away at one of my favorite thrifts, and paid a grand total of $3.21 for it! Hopefully this isn't my last piece before i go!

A great day for Pyrex!

Hi all, SusieQT here from Practice in Time! I can't believe this is my second post in a little over a week here talking about promotional Pyrex- it's been good shopping around these parts lately.

Yesterday, I went with my pal MaryDeluxe to my first ever auction! It was kind of a weird set of circumstances, as I actually knew the lady whose estate was being auctioned off and ended up buying a bunch of her vintage clothing for my Etsy shop. The lady had been a hoarder (she wasn't really that bad yet when I met her 30 years ago) and also had a ton of crap in boxes. I ended up buying a bunch of box lots and came home with some cheap Pyrex.

I bought one box for $3 which contained the yellow and green primary mixing bowls, plus my first ever pink fridgie! The bowls are definitely one of the older sets of primary, with the round stamp on the bottom. The yellow bowl has a '48' right above the PYREX stamp, and the green has a '24'- does anyone know if this is earlier or later than the round stamp without the #?

The fridgie is a 502 with an old style lid. It's in great shape, and except for a 1 qt pink gooseberry casserole is the only pink Pyrex I own. I am so excited to have found it!

After we got done at the auction I took MaryD to my favorite thrift store, or as she aptly named it "Thrift Store Mecca". Since it was late on a Saturday afternoon, most of the good merch had been pretty well picked over, but we did come away with some neat stuff. This is the same thrift store I found the "Vintage/Grapes" promo casserole in my last post here.

After passing up some of the same items as last time (set of Woodland bowls for $$$, misc. Butterfly Gold for $$) I found this Black Rooster promo dish with its cradle for $6.50. To me, that is pretty reasonable and since this pattern is so closely related to Butterprint (it came out in the same year- 1958) I scooped it up. The handles on the cradle are cork, which I haven't ever seen.

I have never had a piece of black Pyrex before either, so I had to take a photo of the happy couple!

Summer's End Thrifting Adventure

Since my kids are about to go back to school, we went for one last thrifting adventure together. My 7-year-old son, especially, is a great help and sometimes finds some great stuff I might have otherwise missed. I'll miss having him along for the next few months. These are some of our finds- you can find the rest at http://www.practiceintime.blogspot.com/

I have had a bit of a Pyrex drought lately. I think it's pretty well documented that thrift stores are onto those of us that collect it, so when I do find it, it's way overpriced. But every once in a while I find some for a decent price. This Early American 401 mixing bowl was $1.97 at the Lancaster Goodwill. It's not a pattern I collect, so will be heading over to my antique store booth. Incidentally, I saw a 403 for this set today at a different thrift store- they wanted $17 for it. No thanks! (I also saw a set of Woodland mixing bowls at the same store for like $35- obviously they are still there.)

I bought this mint condition yellow 501 fridgie at another thrift store. I think it was $2. I always buy these if they are reasonable, regardless of pattern. I use them to store all kinds of things, mostly condiments and small bits of garlic, etc. And since I do collect primary, this was a no-brainer.

This was a bit of a splurge for me at $5, but I have never had a patterned lid casserole before. I do love the green color and it was in great condition underneath a boatload of grease and dirt. It's a 1 qt bake/serve/store casserole in a promo design called "Vintage" (apropos, no?) and supposedly came with a cradle, which I will have to find now! Interestingly it's from the same store with the crazy prices above- just goes to show that sometimes different people price things very differently, even at the same store!

Recent Finds

Here are some recent Pyrex pieces I have aquired...

DOTS! - Oh I just about squealed with happiness when I saw this little beauty at the bottom of a stack of bowls in a nearby antique shop.  The price was well under what I would have had to pay online so I swooped on it... unless the price was crazy, I couldn't leave a New Dots bowl!

These two little Rainbow Stripes guys were the result of my first trade.  It was fun to meet a fellow Pyrex lover in my area.  We got each other's number and have been on the lookout for what the other needs.
The mixing bowl pair came from a local thrift store... grand total of $4, can't beat that!  I actually LOVE the plain opal items.
I completed my first set!  Primary fridgies - all found at different spots.  The orange on the bottom is an old refrigerator drawer and the loaf pan on the top is Fire King with the markings dating it to the mid 1940's!  It may not technically go together, but I like the primary colored flowers with the primary colored fridgies.
And my last piece of eye candy for the day... a Golden Poinsettia casserole with the lid!!  This was found at an antique store with a price of $7.50 (that seemed really good!)... the lid was a little chipped, but still useable.  It is my very first Christmas dish!
Until next time, Happy Pyrex Hunting!!

Heinz 57...I mean 507

I found this interesting utility dish last week on Thursday at my more pricey GW. It was $3.99. I wasn't sure if it was a tiny cake pan, a refrigerator dish, or what?! But it had a minor little paint scratch and otherwise super shiny and interesting green appearance...so of course I grabbed it.

Had the numbers 507-B on the back. Checked it out over at Pyrexlove and came to find out that I had picked up a Heinz promotional piece. It almost matches my salad bowl I posted about last month in color EXACTLY.

What a fun find! Especially when I didn't realize what I had was kind of different. Any interesting finds lately?

Salad Bowl & Slaw

Boy is it hot over here in Albuquerque already!! I love trying new recipes especially salads once the weather turns warm.

and this one is new and different! I'm making Cuban pork wraps tonight for dinner and made the slaw recipe that was included HERE and not only is it super beautiful in my 'salad bowl' mixing bowl, it tastes AMAZING!!
It's got red cabbage, dill pickles, olive oil, white wine vinegar....and....wait for it.......mustard!!

I was a little bit leary at first, but when it all came together (and by all, I mean not only the ingredients in this amazing slaw, but the colors in the salad and the beautiful teal pyrex bowl)...oOOOOooooowEEEE!!
What's your favorite salad? Do you think this one looks good enough to try??

Stay cool, kids!! jenny from www.thetoddlerwhisperer.blogspot.com

Come to me, promotional Pyrex.

I've actually had pretty good luck with Pyrex lately, though some of my finds have been Ebay/Etsy that I got on the cheap...which, I guess, don't really count in the thrill of the hunt aspect. But since we are getting ready to move, I haven't unpacked anything that was shipped to me. I know it's risky and that the sellers could be screwing me over, but I try to hold them up to the light and peer through the bubble wrap to see how they are. I've felt pretty good about the pieces so far, so here's hoping I'm not disappointed when we unpack them.

However, I did remember to snag a picture of this promotional piece of Pyrex before packing it. It was sitting all alone on the shelf of my "pricey" thrift store in town.

$7.00.

This is a "new to me" pattern. Apparently, its a Wicker Promotional Casserole (sometimes referred to as Weave) and was originally sold with a matching candle warmer. The color, not shown well here, is more yellow than green. The prices on the online sites run the gamut from $12.99 to $75.00+, so I suppose it all comes down to what people are willing to pay for it. It's pretty, but not my absolute favorite. I think I'll hold onto it, though, because I'm really loving having a few promotional pieces. And for $7.00, I'd say I got a decent deal.

Tomorrow, I'm getting my boys up early and headed to a couple church sales in town. Here's wishing for more Pyrex!

Hello There! An Intro by Thetoddlerwhisperer

Well Hellllllloooooooo there Pyrex Collective III. I'm your newest member! Been following for a while, then every time I would pick up a piece of gorgeous Pyrex, thought, "Hey, I'd love to share this with this fabulous collective."  This post is pic heavy, but don't we all love drooling over Pyrex?

This is me. I'm a momma of two littles...they aren't toddlers anymore, they are 4 &5. My blog is called thetoddlerwhisperer and if you visit, you can choose the label PYREX over on the right for all my posts with pretty pyrex pics.

This is the first piece I picked up when I decided to start collecting. I grew up using Crazy Daisy in my mom's kitchen. So Pyrex has always held a special place in my heart and memories. We walked into GW, and I saw this beauty on the shelf (complete with the grimy holder) for maybe $4.99.

The next week I went to a different GW and just as I told Mr Toddlerwhisperer that, "no, there's nothing here." I saw these beauties!! I spent $14.99 for the set, which to my thrifty mindset was a little much, but hey, they're so pretty!

I'm also guilty of bidding on shopgoodwill.com when I have no self restraint. (actually I didn't have a working vehicle for 4 months and had to vicariously thrift.) ya, we'll stick with that excuse.

I love to use my pieces too...(this was our super bowl snack)

Mr Toddlerwhisperer is an awesome cook...and he loves my new obsession  collection as well

I have blue tips on my hair. I am slightly regretting because I have an interview next week for a teaching position. (returning to teaching after 5 years of being a SAHM)

And now a question....anyone know what this piece goes to? Is it even Pyrex? From handle to handle it is 19". The oval is 13" x 9" My mom picked it up for me at an estate sale last week.

I'd like to hear what you all think. :)

Happy Hunting Pyrex Collectors!!
