How Much is Too Much?

Oh no, not Pyrex...you can never have too much of a good thing. Am I right??

No, I mean, I read all the posts from all three collectives, and I see a lot of "I wouldn't buy it at that price" or "Eek I spent too much on this piece" and it got me wondering really, how much is too much for pyrex? (and let's just talk in the wild, not online, because i know prices can get out of control online)

I usually just see less desirable or more typical patterns when I go thrift (like a boatload of Early American) so imagine my surprise when I headed down the housewares aisle and eye level to the lady standing next to it was a 4 qt Cinderella style Butterprint...all shiny and aqua.

I reached around her cart and grabbed that sucka. Felt the rim, checked the paint, flipped it for the price. $6.99.

This truly caused me to pause. I was having a moral and financial dilemma. It would be my first Butterprint piece, but I could hardly justify spending $7 of my hard earned paypal dollars (I try to use only my etsy earnings on my crazy addiction) on a bowl. And if I bought it at that price, I would just be encouraging GW to keep raising the roof when it comes to pricing pyrex...on the other hand, if I didn't buy it, somebody else surely would...and I wanted it!!

What would you have done? Because I'm sure you all can guess what I did. Yup, I wiped out my paypal for that pretty baby! :)

Until next find, Jenny from thetoddlerwhisperer!

Heinz 57...I mean 507

I found this interesting utility dish last week on Thursday at my more pricey GW. It was $3.99. I wasn't sure if it was a tiny cake pan, a refrigerator dish, or what?! But it had a minor little paint scratch and otherwise super shiny and interesting green appearance...so of course I grabbed it.

Had the numbers 507-B on the back. Checked it out over at Pyrexlove and came to find out that I had picked up a Heinz promotional piece. It almost matches my salad bowl I posted about last month in color EXACTLY.

What a fun find! Especially when I didn't realize what I had was kind of different. Any interesting finds lately?

Chump Change

Good last few days thrifting for me. I asked the hubby if we could stop at a GW on the way home from a Fro-Yo outing and he dropped me off at the door so I didn't have to race to the housewares section dragging my 4 & 5 yr olds with me. :) (anyone know what i mean?)

Found this Town & Country 1 1/2 QT casserole for $2.99
I don't have any of this pattern, but I have never really loved it...and I have too many 1 1/2 casseroles, so this one is not staying with me.

I actually have a TON of this pattern, but all my pieces are casseroles, and they're brown w/gold and this one is the little bitty mixing bowl. It had no price, so when I took it to the register the lady entered....INHALE
$.99
Phewwww...EXHALE

This is my first Sandalwood piece. I bought it yesterday. Because in my neck of the woods, GW's don't do color coded discount sales, they do every Monday 25% off.
It was all alone with no lid. and...very very faded. (but not the leaves, they are thick and shiny) abused by the dishwasher. I picked it up...I set it down. I picked it up...walked away...looked at stinky shoes, stinky shirts, and old pillow cases. I peeked over to where I set it down. And my 4 yr old said, "Momma, why is your Pyrex over there? You need it for your Colllllleckshion"(love the way 4 year olds know just what to say) My 5 yr old said, "Mom, it's beautiful."
So really.
How could I  leave it at Goodwill? It will make a good cereal bowl or something.
Oh, and the total for this beauty? $1.49

So the GRAND total of my thrifted Pyrex Extravaganza... $5.47
What would you have done? Would you have left the Sandalwood...or brought it home?

Salad Bowl & Slaw

Boy is it hot over here in Albuquerque already!! I love trying new recipes especially salads once the weather turns warm.

and this one is new and different! I'm making Cuban pork wraps tonight for dinner and made the slaw recipe that was included HERE and not only is it super beautiful in my 'salad bowl' mixing bowl, it tastes AMAZING!!
It's got red cabbage, dill pickles, olive oil, white wine vinegar....and....wait for it.......mustard!!

I was a little bit leary at first, but when it all came together (and by all, I mean not only the ingredients in this amazing slaw, but the colors in the salad and the beautiful teal pyrex bowl)...oOOOOooooowEEEE!!
What's your favorite salad? Do you think this one looks good enough to try??

Stay cool, kids!! jenny from www.thetoddlerwhisperer.blogspot.com

What are YOU trying to hide, Goodwill???

Well, Wednesday I was trying to waste some time before my interview. I'm entering the workforce again, and trying to get a job back at the school I used to teach at. (which is a lot harder than I thought it would be, by the way). Luckily, there was a GW right. next. door
And this is what I found. I LOVE the 2 1/2 QT casseroles, and I have three other butterfly gold pieces.

Of course, GW had this puppy taped up all around the lid (which I HATE...always scared the paint will come off when I'm carefully peeling the layers of tape)

So, when I removed the tape and flipped the lid...this is what I found:

DUN DUN DUNNNnnnnnnnn...

A HUGE chip. I mean the pic doesn't do it justice...it's awful. I paid $6.99 for the dish, because, like I said, I love this size dish, but I would have TOTALLY asked for a discount had I seen this monster.

Has this ever happened to you? Drives me batty. (still waiting to hear if I got the job)

Happy Hunting, Jenny from thetoddlerwhisperer
