the {left behind} series

thought i'd share a few pictures of the pieces i have left behind this week...you know, in case you happen to be thrifting in southeastern manitoba. ;)

but, first, i had to share what i found today! yay! another piece of butterfly gold (for $7). i just said last week that i needed some more pieces! plus, i found my very first salt and pepper set ($0.25/ea) and it happens to be in a spring blossom pattern, which i also collect. score.

 

i would love to have this set of spring blossom bowls but at $30, it's a little rich for me. i've noticed that there are some pyrex pieces in my local thrift store that are being tagged differently...and the ones tagged differently are the ones that are expensive. there must have been a pyrex collector out there who decided to donate their collection and kept those price-y tags on them. hmmm. if they want these pieces to move, they're going to have to lower the prices!

these two were super hard to pass up today. one was $3 and the other was $2. and, i already have a piece from this collection but i just didn't have the cash for it today. if they are still there next week, they're making the trip home with me.

another set i'd like but this woodland set was $30.

i bought her pink gooseberry sister last week for $15. so pretty.

am not a fan of old orchard. especially at $5 for this small 401. but, there will be some very happy collector out there who'll snatch it up!

i have one piece of forest fancies but since i'm looking to get rid of it, i thought it'd be best not to pick up another one!

pyrex england

lately, i have noticed that many of you have said that "pyrex england" is a rareity in your areas. i had no idea! i seem to see it everywhere here in manitoba. even my small town thrift store always has an abundance of it but the patterns often aren't my cup of tea so i don't pick much of it up. :)

however, there are three pieces from the "pyrex england" collection that have made their way into my home. finding information on them has proved to be quite difficult so if i am classifying them incorrectly, feel free to correct me!

this was my first piece from the collection. it's the cherry blossom pattern. i'm not sure if i would purchase it if i saw it on the shelf now but back then i bought anything and everything that said "pyrex". :)

my second piece! i LOVE the colours on this piece. it's called country autumn and i even found the matching lid in one of the bins that our thrift store has for leftover casserole lids.

i found this third piece awhile back and wrote about it here. this pattern is so unique and looks a little old town-ish but i just love it. i'm not totally sure of its name but i've seen others refer to it as "vine". after googling it, i've realized that it may actually come with a dark lid which is totally crazy because whenever i see those in the lid bin, i just move right passed them. i didn't even know that they were pyrex. tomorrow i'll be making a stop at the lid bin!



a post from me wouldn't be complete without a snippet of butterfly gold. i love how well the country autumn piece goes with these bowls.

Road Trip Thrifting

We had an unexpected opportunity to head out to SoCal last month, and when you dangle the idea of  hitting the beach and Disneyland in front of this landlocked girl, you get yourself a roadtrip.

While in Huntington Beach, I saw a rickety thrift store full of promise and stopped in. The owner was in her twenties, and I cut straight to the chase..."Do you have any pyrex?"
She looked at me funny and paused.
"I did, just a few days ago, but someone came in here and bought all of it up. I didn't know what it was and had it marked so low she bought all of it..."

I immediately thought of the three Pyrex Collectives...and wondered...WHO did?? So fess up...who was it?

But seriously, it kind of gave me hope, because that was just one thrift in SoCal, who I would have assumed had been seeing the Pyrex craze for a while, yet somebody got an amazing steal deal.

Then I went into the Huntington Beach Salvation Army and turned right around...it was gross, stinky, and zero Pyrex was to be found.

Lastly, on our way home, we stopped in a Flagstaff GW. I found my first piece of England Pyrex.

another set

i've blogged before about my difficulties finding pyrex because of where i live (in manitoba) but today, i felt like one of you! :)

i had been driving through winnipeg and happened by a salvation army so i figured i may as well stop in and take a peek to see if i could find pyrex. well, today must have been my lucky day because i turned the corner and there was some beautiful butterfly gold calling my name! i couldn't believe my luck because i had just recently decided that i needed to be more picky with what pyrex i purchase and, as i wrote about on this post in may, butterfly gold was one of them!

i grabbed all four dishes quickly without checking their prices because i was just too excited to have found them. it turns out that they were a great deal--all four of them for $17 (at least for me, and the prices i've been seeing lately, that's a steal).

(i know, i know, never stack your pyrex in this manner but it was the best way to photograph them!)

what is also a little unusual, is that the markings on the bottom of the 441 are actually different than the exact same 441 i already owned. i'm wondering if that is simply because they were manufactured in different eras?

after grabbing my new set, i decided to wander around the store a bit more and on one of their shelves near the cash register was a hodge podge of items, one of which was this beautiful pyrex england dish (it is similar in size to an 043 casserole). i've never seen this pattern anywhere before and know nothing of its name but it sure is a beauty!
