The Gooseberry Get

I collect Pink Gooseberry for my little miss, who loves it. She also loves Pink Daisy. I like to tell her that some day she will inherit all this neat thrift store stuff. Sometimes she rolls her eyes but when it comes to the pinks, she is all in.

So I'm not hardcore about the Gooseberry, I just pick it up when I find it, and only at thrift stores or estate/yard/moving sales. That means I had found it exactly once, at what I think is one of the ackiest (yes that is a word) thrift stores in town. It has a plastic coyote on the roof. It is unbearably hot inside. The aisles are super narrow and there is stuff and people and carts everywhere. So it was a miracle I found a 472 there two months ago. I keep checking back but nada, zip, zilch, not a single piece of Pyrex ever.

Then this past week I was out with my husband, who owns his own business and works from home. Sometimes he accompanies me on my thrifting. This particular day I had a small loop in mind, but I missed my turn for two stores. He encouraged me to make a U and go back the right way. I did. Then I was going to bypass Value Village because I have never, ever seen Pyrex there.

I told my husband, I think I'll just drive by, I never find anything there. He said, you're here, stop. So I did.

I gasped when I saw this on a low bottom shelf and like a dork my heart started beating really fast. I couldn't speed walk over fast enough to get it, then I sped walked to my husband on the next aisle, held it out in front of as if I were presenting a baby for a politician to kiss, and kind of hyperventilated. Yeah, I'm a dork. Obviously I was pretty excited, especially since it had the lid. Then I flipped it over and saw the price. I know, can you believe I didn't do that first? I was just so excited to find a minty fridgie with lid! This little gal was $3!

So like the other store I will check back more often, but likely it will have the same fate as the other store and run dry. Still, I always hope!

My Finds for Last Week - I'm in Heaven!!!

Well, the week before wasn't too eventful in that I only found one piece, but it is a great piece so I'm not complaining.  This week was so exciting I walked around on clouds for days!  Here's my haul from the thrift stores!

A few of the things that made my heart skip a beat...Hot Air Balloons 441, Mod Kitchen 043 and Friendship fridgie.  I got my very first 024 with a lid and Shenandoah 401, not a pattern I plan on collecting but for 89 cents I couldn't pass it up.  I apparently have too much Pyrex because I wasn't sure if I needed another Verdé casserole, still not sure as I have to check a reference.  I've been wanting to find promotionals and my wish came true. I sold my Bake,Serve & Store BG a couple years ago, so I went ahead and picked up another set. 

Prices were reasonable and condition great on everything except the Snowflake Garland lid but hubby encouraged me to get it. The best deal was the Hot Air Balloon 471 for 99 cents!  I got it for 89 cents with hubby discount.  Most expensive (for what it is and usually runs) was the Friendship fridgie at $1.80, but no way I was going to not buy it!

I'm still giddy!

Antiques in Michigan

It happened to me again!  

Someone refused to sell me some vintage Pyrex in a store.  About a year ago our local thrift shop wouldn't sell me some Pyrex and other goodie they had out because they were waiting for a certain date. Why put it out if you won't sell it? Needless to say I got there on that date first thing and grabbed up my pretties. 

Not how it happened again. I went to this little hardware store in Detroit, Michigan while on vacation. We (my cousin and I) wanted to purchase a butterprint 501 with lid she had.  It was not marked with a price so we asked.  The lady said it wasn't for sale. Um....... huh? She told us she only sold them as sets and so if it wasn't with a set she wouldn't sell it. Well she had a set of them but this was just another random 501 she had. So we put it back. Then she must have thought, "oh I'll throw out a price and they will for sure buy it since it will look like I'm doing them a favor." $6, no lid. 

Needless to say we bought very little, nothing that wasn't priced. And got out of there. 

This is all I got. 

Thankfully the antique store we went to was much better and everything was priced and priced fabulous!

I managed to finish my Bake, Serve & Store set of Spring Blossom and my Primary set. 

And no one refused to sell them to me.

Clear Fridgie Set!

A few weekends ago I had to go to Palm Springs about 2 hours away to watch my hubby's film at a film festival. He is so sweet. He let me go thrifting while him and my son went and saw Superman.

The film my hubby produced. 

There wasn't much there in terms of Pyrex but man they have a ton of thrift stores in Cathedral City!

My best score was a clear fridge set. Yeah newer stamps, but all with lids and in great condition. It would be the only clear Pyrex I own now.
