Recent Finds

Last week, my children and I stopped by 4 thrift stores on our way to church. There was only Pyrex to be found at one store. We were a little bummed, but were excited to find these pieces.

I just love the spring blossom print. It must have something to do with the fact that I grew up with a few pieces in my parents' house. Anyway these oval casseroles are a favorite of mine. I really love the bigger 045 since we have a large family it definitely works well for us.

Fridgies are also some of my favorite finds, so when I spotted this little guy on the shelf I was pretty excited. That's all we found for the week. Perhaps that is a good thing. It's good on the pocket book. :)

Thrifting With a Friend

A couple weeks ago my friend Heather, who blogs on Pyrex II and Lark and Lola, and I decided to spend the afternoon thrifting. (We also stopped in at a local crafting store.) We went to 6 thrift stores. This is all that I found. I seriously think there is a Pyrex drought around here. 

These two yellow Daisy bowls were just what I needed to finish off my set. I was so bummed to find them in such terrible condition.

Not only did we pass on these pieces, but they were the only Pyrex pieces we saw besides the little Spring Blossom that I purchased. Here's to hoping that this drought ends soon. Bring on the summer!

Rainbow's End

After a hectic couple of weeks, I realized that I needed some retail therapy.  I have about 2 hours to myself on Thursdays while my daughter is at school, and today I definitely wanted to hit the thrifts. It was a very good decision!

I decided to brave the local Sally Ann. This store is only a couple of miles from me and is huge- probably over 10K square feet. I think it used to be a Kmart. It really is that big! You'd think it would be a slam dunk, that I'd be there every week, but no. It just hasn't paid off for me very much. Lots of smelly stuff and smelly people. 

But today I found a few gems, and in the housewares section. Other than the furniture section, which is miniscule, and the jewelry section, (which is non-existent- where does it all go?) the housewares section of this store is probably the worst.

I have never, ever, found Pyrex in this store, let alone a fridgie in great shape and in a pattern I collect. But there it was, a primary yellow 503 with the old-style lid for $3.99. It was very dirty, but cleaned up nicely. I'm halfway there to completing the primary fridgie set!

This is the best find of the day, perhaps the year. Yes, it is jadeite, and not a repro. I think I must have knocked over a few babies and old ladies getting to it. It was $2.99. You're reading that correctly.

It's a large mixing bowl, and I happened to know exactly what it belongs to:

A perfect fit! Never did I think I would find it, and for only a couple of bucks. See, there really is treasure at the end of the rainbow!

A New Pyrex Obsession

In my Pyrex journey I had been perfectly happy with collecting only casseroles, bowls, and fridgies...that was until I saw these:

Aren't these just the sweetest little Pyrex teacups!? I have seen the Pyrex mugs before, but never the teacups. They have a milk glass look with a chartreuse colored rim and gold bands. I found them at the Goodwill for 59 cents each.

The bottom of the cups are stamp labeled instead of the usual Pyrex logo embossing. The stamp logo has a copper sheen to it. The number 30 is faintly embossed towards the edge of the bottom.

I am curious as to the pattern name and when it was issued. Does anyone know?

Divide and Conquer!

Hey everybody! I'm Genevieve from over at Your Aunties Panties (it only sounds slightly perverse, I assure you, it's not!)

I'm new to the Pyrex Collective III, and couldn't be more happy to be here! What a great community of Pyrex lovers! Anyways, on to the good stuff!

I haven't had any decent shopping excursions lately, due to a lovely Canadian snow storm, and feeling pretty yucky too! I did want to share some lovely divided dishes that I have found in 2012 so far! 

 I literally gasped when I spied this little sweetie at Sally Ann for just $3.99. It's one of my most favorite Pyrex finds in quite a while!I just love the Barbed Wire pattern, it's so out of the ordinary!

 

I also really love this Snowflake Blue pattern, really lovely and simple! I paid $5.00 for this one.

 

 A Verde divided dish, in great condition! I think this one was $5.00 also.

So, besides being excellent at taking up cupboard space, these dishes are great for for leftovers, or even serving two different types of snacks. I've seen posts online where some rockin' folks have made two different types of pie, one on each side (where the heck was that?)

What do you all like to use your divided dishes for?? I know they're not the most coveted pieces around, but you all probably have at least one, right? Let me know what you use yours for, and I'll be able to justify keeping them (and maybe a few of their friends) around!!!

Square flowers: like it or not?

I don't know if I like this pattern very much. I love the green. Maybe it is the fact it is another divided dish. I just don't have the love for divided dishes (except charcoal snowflakes). Salvation Army hasn't let me down in the past so I will take it that the divided dish needed to be mine for the time being.

Do you have any ones that you just don't care for?  I love Old Orchard, but most  think is ugly. I don't care for Homestead, even passing up a minty set of mixing bowls for $20.  But this one I am on the fence about.
