Eagles and a Percolator

As would be expected, thrifting has be slow around here.  Very slow.  Everyone must be getting too busy with the holiday season to be cleaning out their cupboards and donating.  Luckily I do have a few goodies to share...thanks in large part to my dad.  In fact, he found all the Early American as well as the Federal Eagle bowl. 

 

Meanwhile, I found a salt shaker...and the Pyrex Percolator...which I am especially tickled about.  It's in excellent condition, is 100% complete, and was only $3.  No arguments, no second thoughts, to the Goodwill cash register we went.

It's Beginning to Look Like a Pyrex Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like... Pyrex...everywhere I go...

I decided it was time to change out my hutch to a more seasonally appropriate Pyrex configuration. Mixed in are some of my other recent Christmas finds such as Gurley candles, Christmas Lego figures (my son's contribution), and vintage ornaments. I think I'm sore today from moving everything around last night. It still needs a little rearranging but I'm pretty happy with it. I wish there had been a space saver made (548 or 575) with red on it. The only Christmas color I really have in that is my green Golden Wheat. I decided to put my Golden Pines in instead, though. I put vintage ornaments in my Flameware and my Harlequin Anchor Hocking Chip and Dip set.

I have had a lot of fun these past few weeks hunting down some great Shiny Brite, Paragon, Coby, and Pyramid vintage ornaments. My best find was two packages of Shiny Brites at the Goodwill Outlet for a whopping total of $.65! At the outlet, you pay for your glass items by the pound. $.69 per pound to be exact. I was so surprised that these fragile glass ornaments weren't crushed sometime between their time arriving at Goodwill and making it on the floor in the bins. It is so loud there you almost feel like you've been to a rock concert when you leave. I also had a lucky stop at The Salvation Army at their last Friday of the month sale. I had seen some Pyrex Flamingo plates, bowls and saucers there about a month earlier and was disappointed to see that they were asking $38.00. I couldn't rationalize spending that for them. I was surprised to find that they were still there when I happened to stop in. So, I got them for half price. If any one needs any Flamingo saucers let me know. I know own fifteen of them. I really only wanted the bowls and plates but they were a set. I also found four Corning Christmas mugs which I had been looking for too. I also finally got my shiny primary 402 that I've been looking for since I began collecting. It was actually completely covered in grease but I could tell that there was some shine underneath. It took a long soak in oven cleaner and looks great! I still have to work on some stubborn grease clinging to the bottom of the rim. Overall, I've had some good Pyrex mojo. The one piece that I can't find for a price I'm willing to pay is the Christmas 404. If I can somehow get my husband to read this maybe he would get me one for Christmas. Hint. Hint.

It is funny how you notice Pyrex everywhere when you become "addicted".  I was re watching the Gilmore Girls series and in season one, there was Luke and Loralie at "Luke's" and Spring Blossom is behind them!

Vintage Luck and Pyrex!

Last week I was able to find the much sought after Pyrex cookbook on Amazon for $4.00!  I think it was an amazing deal especially with free shipping.  If you are a collector of Pyrex or vintage cookbooks this is a must have.  I knew Pyrex was useful but never imagined using a bowl to bake a cake in.  Who knew?  Fun times were had as I looked through the colorful cookbook.

I also went to one of my favorite vintage treasure hunting location and found 2 amazing items.  Ok, so remember the cookbook rack I thought I would never see again in the wild or anywhere? (If you don't click here and you can catch up and see pictures at http://cherrypickedfinds.blogspot.com/ ) I found one in the box, still wrapped in plastic and looks like it was never used. 

 As if that was not enough there was another box with the matching spice rack in mint condition as well!!  So I am keeping the spice rack and selling the cookbook rack here http://www.etsy.com/shop/CherryPickedFinds  I love the one I have and use it all the time.  Stores right under the cabinet.  I have seen modern versions of these that are super expensive and with out the character or vintage feel. Amazing week Pyrex Peeps!  Love the thrill of the hunt!

Cat Adventures in Pyrex

My boyfriend has begun his Christmas shopping for me.. with my own help, of course! He knows I wanted Pyrex but still asked for my help in finding some pieces.

Our cats seemed pretty excited over the purchases too...So, just for fun, here are some pics :)

Pyrex drought

Hello everyone!

I have been trying for the last 2 weeks to bring home my usual haul of Pyrex!
For some reason there is a Pyrex drought....and I am not liking it!

Now I come home with maybe 2 finds of Pyrex when before I used to bring home 10 pieces or more!
Well, this Friday I went to my normal thrift routine and only found 1 piece of Pyrex and then found two lids which are pretty neat..

I found this Stripe Pyrex dish in Savers on Friday.

I was not loving it at first and I almost did not buy it but it intrigued me because I have never seen one like this before....does anyone know if this is a rare piece or if it was promotional? I know nothing so any info would be great!

I also found this lid at the same Savers.....it is in EXCELLENT condition

I found this yesterday at an estate sale a block away from me.

It is in near mint condition, the bottom part is in excellent condition just the lid has a chip in it on the inside, not noticeable.

I got it for $10. Maybe a little too much for it but I am desperate for some Pyrex!

How it started for me

Hi !

I've been following the posts for a little while now and I am very proud to join the Collective as a contributor.  I thought I’d begin by letting you know how my case of Pyrexia started.

My friends and I love to go to garage sales and yard sales, and one early Saturday morning, many many years ago, I came across this:

... and fell in love!  The color, the shape, the scroll, the usefulness – what’s not to love!  I don’t remember exactly how much I paid for it, but I'm sure it wasn't much.  So I set out to try and find more pieces with this color and pattern.  Well you can all laugh now, because most of you know that this is a promotional item – and no other pieces were done with the exact color and pattern (as far as I know).

So I started to collect pieces I found that had the turquoise color, and found a few at other garage and yard sales:

Well, many years went by with me using my beautiful Pyrex pieces, but not really looking for any more.

Then one day, I happened upon blogs and found amazing people loving Pyrex and writing about it!  Well that renewed my interest and I started looking again.  All the beautiful colors, patterns and shapes – my eyes have been opened and I now recognize that I am “afflicted” with a case of Pyrexia!
