Happy Almost Spring!

I am so happy to report I found a little pyrex here in SoCal.
It has been dry, or maybe I just haven't been looking for a while.
And yes while not all of this pictures is Pyrex, the Fire King is awesome with the duel candle warmers.

I think I perfected the "Walk & Stalk" with the pink square baker.

Head over to treasuresmyhh.blogspot.com to hear the story of my "Walk & Stalk"

I hope you all that have snow see the sun melt it away soon. It was 90 here in Sunday.
I stayed in a played with my Pyrex.

Until next time

Happy Hunting!!

Tan Thursday, Black Fridays long lost cousin!

The estate sales lines are getting wicked crazy. I am talking insanity at it highest form. I waited in line 2 hours last week and was #11. It is like the day after Thanksgiving otherwise know as Black Friday but without the ad or a map of the store. You line up at ungodly hours to be met by some of the most fierce and grumpy people I have ever encountered, who are all after the same handful of items, that may or may not be in the right location. Meaning the Pyrex could be located in the bathroom closet or the coveted vintage Danish Modern chair could be upstairs in a room buried under a pile of stuffed Pandas (true story).

Look I may be complaining but guess who keeps getting up earlier and earlier. Yep, this gal! The last estate sale I went to the people in line ahead of me had camped out overnight. Just like Black Fiday! But this is what I found.

I found a set of menu letters for the NOS Dr Pepper menu I found some time ago. I put it up in my kitchen with a fun phrase. Love it!

I also brought home some Pyrex. The sandalwood bowl and the space saver lid! I looked all over for the space saver but did not find it. Not much of a haul for a 2 hour wait but, I'll take what I can get. Guess who is getting up extra early tomorrow? Me!

Plenty of Finds Last Week!

I can't believe how much Pyrex was out there this week and I certainly picked up my share!  I'm not the only one buying it--everything I saw on one day was gone the next!  Apparently I missed a day that had "a lot of different colored bowls" the cashier told me.  Ouch!  That was hard to hear!  Well, here is what I did score.

I found these all on one day.  I do have the Cinderella bowls, but I got these to trade or sell.  I really wanted the butter dish and I finally got one!  I'm actively looking for opal white Pyrex now, I found this unmarked 401.  I washed and put this away and then two days later I got the following:

This was all from one store on the same day.  I was there the day before and it must have been put out later that day or the next morning.  The primaries I got for the lids, the paint on them isn't in very good shape.  Lids are hard to come by so I have to get them when I can.  The Butterprint completes a second fridgie set.  I collect Verdé with the berries/olives except I don't care for the handled/spouted bowls, so I don't pick them up.  I have the 475 casserole with a clear lid, I had to buy this one as it has the opal lid and the casserole dish is minty.  The Verdé 473 I have, but this one, again, very minty.  I got the opal lid a couple days later--forgot to photograph it.  And the most exciting find is the Verdé 501 fridgie!  I have the 503 and 502. I have seen the 501s in vintage/antique shops for $9 and $10 and I refuse to pay that much for one fridgie.  Patience pays off!

Four more days of thrifting and a couple of sales and I got my second Verdé 501 fridgie.  Another fridgie set completed.  I was thrilled.  I got the first piece of this fridgie set, the 502, in summer of 2012!  I am happy to get the Spices promotional and it was a steal, I'll pair this up with my Sandalwood pieces and opal whites.  Last stop at the thrifts today hubby was digging in a cart yet to be unloaded and spied this black gooseberry 442!  He was pretty proud of himself. I'm up to two 443s and one 442.

I went to some antique shops out of town today.  There was a lot of Pyrex.  The first place I went  it was really over priced.  There were a few nice things, a pink Daisy 945 for $38!  Nope, can't touch that.  We went to another place that has changed and is really nice now with multiple vendors and there was a lot of nice Pyrex that was still priced high, but not as crazy as other places.  I walked away with a couple pieces that I wanted most and was able to get them at a lower than asking price.

I have been sitting on the 043 Horizon Blue lid for about 6 months and today I found a bottom for it.  I shouldn't have, but I also took this golden scroll open baker promotional for $12. Paint is great on both of these and the gold scroll is in very nice condition.  I have enough Horizon Blue pieces now that I can do a display on my peninsula--yay!

There was a lot of Autumn Harvest and Old Orchard as well.  I would have picked up fridgies in those, but there were none to be found.  I won't be going as much next week, so perhaps this week is making up for it! Hope other Pyrexers have good luck and post next week!!  I will need to get my fix vicariously!!!

I posted some of my other vintage finds on my blog here if you'd like to see!

Stars align in the Bloggersphere, Pyrex Results!

Stars align in the Bloggersphere and I am over the moon with the outcome. I have been reading fellow blogger, Ana's blog for a while now. Specifically her vintage obsession over a certain mid-century design. Read about it here www.rearrangeddesign.com. So, when I came across the design on a tray at an estate recently, I snapped it up.

This stuff is apparently rare and hard to find information about. You can read all about it at her blog. I emailed her looking for information and she was very helpful and also offerred to buy/trade. I said I would be happy to trade if you got the goods! I mean the Pyrex :)

Of course, she had Pyrex, like all good vintage collectors do. We exchanged photos and within 48 hours we were very happy bloggers. This is what I got. A 503 with lid, a 502 with lid, and a 501 with lid. The 501 I received is part of another set I'm working on and is not pictured. I had the 501's for this set! Daisy set complete:)

A Dry Spell Broken (Knock on Wood)

I've made a decision to try and only buy Pyrex from thrifts, fleas, and estate/yard sales. This means no eBay or antique stores. What this has led to is a dry spell of several weeks, with me sorely jonesing to purchase online or hit up an antique mall. I have resisted, though, even though my last find that I brought home was almost a month ago (see it here). To be fair, I have found stuff, just nothing I want to bring home. I don't need or want Autumn Harvest (unless it is a 401, I feel compelled to own every 401 made, or a 501/503, same story as the 401 need). A Hex Signs 045 did nothing for me. I saw some Town & Country but passed. I have been working on clearing out the things I don't want, which is incidentally things most other collectors don't want. I am down to one box to be released into the wild.

All that to say this is the time the thrifts and weekend sales have decided to be dry in terms of what I like. Then on a whim I decided to have an upbeat, positive outlook and hit some thrifts on the way home from the gym. The first three yielded nothing, nada, zilch, not even a pattern I didn't want. But the last one finally had something I really, really want: Friendship.

I had a clear patterned Friendship 475 lid at home just waiting for this bad boy. I will be on the hunt for the opal version but in the meantime I feel quite satisfied. My finds may become more sporadic but hopefully better.

Happy hunting!

Pink, Space Saver, Stripes! What a Great Week!

I am rushing to post today, we spent a lot of time thrifting today and I have plans to do some spring cleaning tomorrow, so I need to get my post done tonight!

Well, it was a great week for sure!  I had a lot of exciting moments, it was a lot of fun!  Here's what I got!

I don't know where to start.  As you can imagine, pink anything is always cause for cheer.  I first found the Pink Flamingo 024, which was great, but the next day it was the Pink Stripes.  I just couldn't believe my luck.  I wondered if I'd ever find any Stripes and then a few days later I found the tan!  Different store, different chain.  I've been thinking about getting some opal white to supplement things like Sandalwood when I put it out for display, but it wasn't until hubby questioned why I wasn't buying the white 024 (he said "white is a color too" I worked in a lab for 20 years where there was a debate over "white" and "colorless")  that I decided to actively look for white.  Makes me annoyed I didn't get that loaf pan that was sitting for ages.

I figured Friday was my last thrifting day and at my last stop I found this minty 502 for my Town and Country fridgie set.  I was speechless.  I was high.  It just seemed too incredible.  I have two sets and missing the 502 for both.  I was sooooo thrilled.   What a way to end a week! I felt like such a lucky girl!!  But as my lime utility pan was soaking in the sink on Saturday morning, my friend called and said she found something for me for $2.  (I love having lookouts!)

Yep!  Black Snowflake Space Saver with lid.  It was almost too much!  I'm still so shocked I don't know what else to say except that I am a lucky lucky girl!  I also found some fun vintage stuff that I just posted to my blog if you wanna see here!  Seems like the thrifts may be warming up a bit!

On to supper!
