Leaving Pyrex for Others

This week I didn't have much luck in thrifting for Pyrex. I did however see some, but I left it for other lovers to grab. Do you leave Pyrex for others to have that special moment with?

One of the nice pieces I found.

One of the not so nice pieces I found.

Pyrex Flower Pots

I put on a Vintage Birthday Tea for my Mom on Friday.  This was the center piece.  More on the tea at www.gfpastorswife.blogspot.com

I would love to see/hear your creative uses for Pyrex too!

Is this Pyrex?

Guess I need some help.
This bowl sure looks like and feels like Pyrex.

It's plain white and is not marked,
other than  a number 11 on the bottom.

I've never owned any Pyrex that wasn't marked,
and don't know if they made any this way.

I get too much glare to photograph the bottom.

Could it be a mixer bowl?

I did browse them online awhile, but the shapes were different.
This bowl shape is the exact shape of the typical mixing bowls.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Pam

new pyrex pleasing display

This looks good, right?

There is a small problem with this, though.

This was my old shelf ("old" meaning I got it at the beginning of the year) I had to display my beautiful Pyrex.

My husband and I realized I wasn't going to get anywhere near fitting my whole collection on this shelf.

Big surprise, huh?

See what my husband surprised me with?

Meet my new shelf and display!! I fit almost all of my Pyrex on this shelf (there are two cradles and my everyday use Pyrex missing), and I still have room to add more! That is if I can find those few elusive pieces I'd love to add.

This was only half of my turquoise added to the shelf. My husband was worried it all wasn't going to fit.

I assured him I was excellent at Pyrex stacking.

There are a few more photos over at froog and doog if you wanted to check them out.

Happy Hunting!

An Embarrassment of Riches

After reading my sob story about the Pyrex that got away, Anna of The Victory Garden (and also here) let me know that I could come by and check out the Pyrex she was planning to sell.

Here is the part where words fail me. That much pristine, shiny, practically flawless Pyrex at once was SO MUCH FUN. Another huge thanks to Anna for giving me first dibs (and an awesome deal) on her lovely stuff!

A stack of  lovely plates with a lime-green band.

A couple of orphan plates that I decided to take at the last minute. I know my girls will delight in the pink plate with gold trim (I'm thinking of using it as a birthday plate). As for the top plate (Grecian or Bluegrass?), I actually said to Anna, "Oh, that's so CUTE." Apparently, vintage Pyrex reduces me to a tween, language-wise.

The Blue Floral casserole (SO PRETTY--the picture doesn't do its perfect condition justice) and a glossy opal pie dish.

A Spring Blossom mug (I already have the tea cup, so that completes my personal mug/tea cup goal) and a Spring blossom casserole to add to my little display of small, pretty Pyrex).

And finally, I bought the little yellow Cinderella bowl at the top of the stack to complete my set of Daisy Cinderella bowls.

It's a feast for the eyes around here. And for the final touch:

New Dots. $2.29 at the thrift store up the street from our house. Make no mistake--it's scratched and nicked. But the white of the bowl is shiny and the dots are pretty vibrant--I don't think this bowl has been through the dishwasher. I never expected to even see a New Dots in person, much less own one, so $2.29 seemed like a pretty great deal.

Thus ends this particular Pyrex saga.

Have a great weekend!

Come to me, promotional Pyrex.

I've actually had pretty good luck with Pyrex lately, though some of my finds have been Ebay/Etsy that I got on the cheap...which, I guess, don't really count in the thrill of the hunt aspect. But since we are getting ready to move, I haven't unpacked anything that was shipped to me. I know it's risky and that the sellers could be screwing me over, but I try to hold them up to the light and peer through the bubble wrap to see how they are. I've felt pretty good about the pieces so far, so here's hoping I'm not disappointed when we unpack them.

However, I did remember to snag a picture of this promotional piece of Pyrex before packing it. It was sitting all alone on the shelf of my "pricey" thrift store in town.

$7.00.

This is a "new to me" pattern. Apparently, its a Wicker Promotional Casserole (sometimes referred to as Weave) and was originally sold with a matching candle warmer. The color, not shown well here, is more yellow than green. The prices on the online sites run the gamut from $12.99 to $75.00+, so I suppose it all comes down to what people are willing to pay for it. It's pretty, but not my absolute favorite. I think I'll hold onto it, though, because I'm really loving having a few promotional pieces. And for $7.00, I'd say I got a decent deal.

Tomorrow, I'm getting my boys up early and headed to a couple church sales in town. Here's wishing for more Pyrex!
